Product Description

An original and Celtic album, featuring exuberant Celtic dance songs and soulful folk ballads. Winner of 2011's Celtic Album of the Year award from Celtic Radio, this album features Gothard Sisters originals like It's the Little Things, The Sailor and the Mermaid, and Willow's Waltz, along with covers of traditional favorites like Raglan Road, Fields of Athenry and Scarborough Fair.

Review

There isn't one song on this album that I don't like; I've been listening to it almost non stop for the last week. --Anthony Barbee

I have only been listening to the Gothard Sisters for a few months, but their music never ceases to amaze me. Scarborough Fair is by far my favorite song on this album. The Sailor and the Mermaid is a beautiful song with superb violin. I would recommend this album to anybody who likes Dougie Maclean, Celtic Thunder, or even Celtic Women. Best album produced by these sisters yet! --Chris Oertle

I enjoyed this trio's music. The release is a mixture of traditional and original songs written by the sisters. I could tell that those songs composed by the sisters were delivered with greater passion, energy and skill--they are the songs I enjoyed most. Their one traditional rendition of Scarborough Fair was very well done--they did a good job putting their ornamentation to it. The fiddle playing was another highlight. This is a talented group who I think will only get better with time. I look forward to their next release. --Ronnie P. Guimond

This is another great album by a trio of very talented sisters. I was pleasantly surprised to discover they wrote more than half of the songs on the album. If you love their music, make an effort to see them in person. Not only can they play and sing, they can dance!

The Gothard Sisters came from their homes in the Pacific Northwest all the way to Crownsville, Maryland, where they were featured/headline performers for our 3rd Annual Annapolis Irish Festival at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds on Sat., July 13, 2013. Seeing them at a live concert, watching them switch from champion violin playing to champion dancing, I had to blink at least once before bursting into loud and sustained applause. At the fairgrounds, a large plywood dance floor was suddenly filled with children ages 5 and up, all of whom wanted to dance and clap. While they offered some previews from their next album, the Gothard Sisters also performed several tracks from STORY GIRL (2011 award for Album of the Year by Celtic Radio). Enjoy!

I saw this group perform at the Alaska State Fair in August 2013 and purchased their newest CD, "Compass". What a surprise! This is not just some nice Irish jig and fiddle music, nor is it some dull takes on the classics. Their music is lively, original, and beautifully arrange. Their youthful energy, as well as their angelic voices on solos, will get your heart racing and your blood flowing. The Sisters have been classically trained in violin since age 5 and have competed in many international dace festivals. They are truly talented. This CD, "Story Girl" is a super introduction to the music of the The Gothard Sisters. From the mellowness of their violins work, to the modern riffs of their guitars and mandolins; from the driving beat of their tradition drums, to the tenderness of their vocals, The excitement, energy, and personality of The Gothard Sisters on this CD as well as their others CDs should prove enjoyable to you.

Greta, Willow, and Solana Gothard are three multitalented sisters hailing from the Pacific Northwest. They play a variety of instruments (focusing on strings), and perform traditional Celtic music as well as their own Celtic-tinged compositions. They are also champion stepdancers.

Their videos are great fun to watch. They always remind me a little of Tolkien's elves, bright, blonde and ethereal, an image reinforced by the natural settings in which they play and their frequent use of medieval style clothing.

They are extremely accomplished performers who have an impeccable sense of one another's timing. Solana, the youngest sister, is their primary vocalist. She has a pleasant, if markedly regional, singing voice that is well suited to their choice of material, which on this album includes standards such as "Scarborough Fair" and "Fields of Athenry" and the Gothard Sisters composition "Willow's Waltz."

I bought this album based on the strength of the Scarborough Fair song and I was not disappointed. The album is full of violin melodies that make you forget you are listening to a violin. An excellent album.

I stumbled across this music while searching for "Scarborough Fair" in an attempt to provide soothing music for my class in an elementary school. I teach a group of students from around the world. In fact there are 11 different languages represented in my class. My students were immediately silent as the video flashed across the screen. This is no small feat for a room full of seven year olds. As the last few weeks of school pass, the students become restless. Usually I play classical music. In this case everyday they ask me to play the Gothard Sisters videos on the projector to which I happily oblige. If you love the music, I encourage you to seek out the videos on YouTube. The video for "It's The Little Things" is worth the effort. The sisters, must be a class act. I E-mailed them a thank you note at the urging of my students. To my surprise, They replied with a video message for my class! This is one disk you can just leave playing in the background. It is so pleasant playing through the halls of the school, and the living rooms of our home. While there may be some professional group out there who may play this music better, you can't beat the passion of the music.
