Priscilla has always been very different from her sisters. Growing up in a life of privilege, though her free spirit and preference for art over business had persistently kept her feeling like an outcast and the black sheep of the family which could sometimes leave her in a precarious situation. This time there is no covering up her circumstance, and she is desperate to find a solution before her family finds out. Shane’s upbringing was poor and far different from Priscilla’s. Being raised on a farm and living a small life always worried whether his family would have enough money to put food on the table and keep the electricity running. Determined as a young boy to make a better life for himself, he now works at Story Imports with aspirations of moving up the business ladder, no matter what it takes. When both Priscilla and Shane are left with uncertainty as they perceive the horizon of their futures, they agree that a simple “marriage of convenience” may just be the answer to both of their problems.
But in hopes of proving to everyone that their relationship is genuine, Shane and Priscilla decide to spend more time together though it goes beyond their initial agreement. As the hours and days pass, their connection to one another deepens, and they both begin to fall harder than they ever anticipated. Despite the external differences exhibited by Shane and Priscilla, they soon realize that their souls are a perfect match in every way imaginable. Will their deepening love for one another overshadow their individual differences allowing Shane and Priscilla to find their unity and happily-ever-after in each other’s arms?
I fell quickly and very hard for Shane and Priscilla. Despite the diversities of their personalities, they truly are a union of souls. Shane is the epitome of the word gentleman showing his deep concern and caring for Priscilla, as well as an inherent need to protect her, even before he truly acknowledges to himself the deep feelings he has. Priscilla persistently exhibits such a deep kindness and gentle nature which emanates from her very core, despite her upbringing which, other than what she shares with her sister, Margaret, is completely devoid of an emotional and loving connection. As these two souls meld together they begin to create a life together which fulfills the profoundly emotional and loving needs they have both been longing to find.
I’m beginning to think I should create a template for myself for writing a review of one of Katy Regnery’s novels. With each and every story she pens, Ms. Regnery creates such fantastic and memorable characters that consistently leave my heart fluttering and my soul swooning with complete serenity and satisfaction. And The Bohemian and the Businessman accomplished that once again. I have read some comments that Shane and Priscilla have been added to a list of favorite Blueberry Lane characters but, quite honestly, for me it would be like choosing a favorite child. There is absolutely no way to pick a favorite between all of the charming and wonderful couples which Ms. Regnery has given us throughout the Blueberry Lane series. Each and every one of them has been so special and spectacular in their own ways. And I love them all!!
THE DIRECTOR AND DON JUAN -- The Director and Don Juan brings us back to the much loved Blueberry Lane series by Katy Regnery, the monarch of romance. This time we are given book 2 in The Story Sisters ventures, with the love story between of Alice and Carlos. I loved Alice’s strength from book 1, but here we are given the opportunity to see her vulnerabilities and self-doubts as well which I adored. And Carlos – OMG! What can I say about Carlos? Although we hadn’t really met him before, I fell in love with him instantly. The depth of his feelings for Alice was completely translucent in his display of how unconditionally he cared for her as he took care of her, protected and watched over her. Though it was not apparent from the inception of the book how deeply Alice felt for Carlos, with the turn of every page her true feelings for him finally begin to shine through. And as Carlos proves to Alice that his heart has always belonged to her, she is finally able to open up her heart to him as well, at long last melding their souls together and finding the love they deserve to find and share forever.
Katy Regnery never really surprises me with the fantastic stories she continues to write. The world and characters she creates in each of her novels makes me fall in love over and over again. And the connection between Alice and Carlos has once again accomplished that. Her amazing romances continuously leave my heart fluttering and The Director and Don Juan has brought forth that feeling for me once again, leaving me with a smile on my face and my soul full of contentment and love.
I gotta say each book I read by Katy makes me love her even more. I LOVED the previous sub-series "The Rousseaus" each book was a JOY to read with the last one being my favorite, this one was the same and yet better - something new and yet familiar and loved. Can't get enough of the Blueberry Lane series and Katy, mostly Katy.
The timeline of this one takes place 2 years before the "current time". It's the same timeline as "Crazy About Cameron" (from the Winslow Brothers) in which Margaret Story (Priscilla's sister) finds her HEA with Cameron Winslow. But if you haven't read it, or if you haven't read ANY of the books in the bigger "Blueberry Lane" series it doesn't matter because besides getting a little bit more about the Story sisters, and one scene that was "replayed" from a different angle nothing here is a spoiler. It's something really nice about the series, you can start wherever you want to and it doesn't really matter, though if you start in one sub-series I do think it makes more sense to start with the first one that introduces the siblings. Also it's a good way to avoid minor spoilers.
There are 5 very different sisters in the Story family, raised by a "proper" mother (who since passed away) and a very chauvinistic and demeaning father very much in the picture. Douglas Story runs "Story Imports" and though 3 of the 5 worked there, it's obvious their father's general views of women made it hard for them to be appreciated for who they and their unique abilities. It's no wonder Margaret recently found a different interest to pursue and Alice opened a similar (competitive) business of her own. Priscilla worked a little at the company but she is the kind of wildflower who never intended to stay anyway. But it was a nice summer in which she got to know the "uptight" Shane Olson, her father's right hand and a guy she LOVED to tease.
The thing that brings this book and "Crazy About Cameron" together happens in the very beginning of both - Shane asking Margaret to marry him and getting a very strict NO for an answer. It wasn't that they loved each other, in Shane's eyes they "matched", and since Douglas Story would NEVER promote a woman to a position of power he suggests to Shane he should date (and later on mary) Margaret. Shane had in mind what and how he wants his life to be from an early age so though he wasn't even that attracted to Margaret he thought that together they could make the company better, and he could give her what her father never will. So a marriage of convenience for sure, but one with friendship and respect. As Priscilla's says, he failed to see something very important about her sister - Margaret is a romantic at heart and what he offered her had ZERO appeal to her.
Yet what Shane offered Margaret had 100% appeal to Priscilla who is in a VERY tight spot.. She needed a husband, or rather she needed to be married one year in order to get her trust fund money so she can take care of herself and the baby growing inside of her and so marrying Shane seems the BEST solution to both of their problems even if it makes ZERO sense in who they are.. As the title reads - The Bohemian - Priscilla who is full of life, adventures, art and fun and The Businessman - Shane who has a very strict and obvious plan for his future and it apparently consists of him having a better position at "Story Imports" before he is able to move on.
Priscilla's offer for Shane isn't what he expected and he IS worried it won't work with their differences but mostly he doesn't know what to do with how much she affects him. Everything about her speaks to him in a way that really shouldn't. It's more than a basic desire, it's something about who she is and how open and lively that makes her charms irresistible to him. Priscilla was always attracted to the uptight Shane. She enjoyed teasing him exactly because of that and always wondered how he would look "unwinded". Yet what makes Priscilla fall for him, isn't that at all, it's how sweet and caring he is. I totally saw the appeal there, Shane is a dream of a guy really. All she needed was someone to truly love and care for her, see her for who she is and love her for it and not criticize her, and though they go through mutual accusations they both said the truth at the time and apologized for the delivery of it. Though through those accusations both were able to rethink their life choices and grow (up).
I was half in love with Shane myself and I SO enjoyed Priscilla's care free ways and yet the fact she herself is such a sweet girl without a mean bone in her body. She might be "different" from others, but she just wanted to belong and accepted the way she is. In a way Shane was the same coming from a poor background and never truly finding himself with "old money". Their intimacy and the way it progressed was BEAUTIFUL to read. They had many bumps along the way, they needed to get to know each other and trust each other and these things take time, more time than they really have considering her belly will be showing soon and she doesn't want anyone to realize the bargain she and Shane struck. She wants everything to look real and soon enough it becomes more real than either of them expected.
Both Priscilla and Shane put up a face that isn't who they actually are. Priscilla might look carefree and in a way she is! and yet she had a very difficult and very cold up bringing. Her decision to leave her home and travel the world was mostly because she couldn't stay there with the horrible memories, she wanted to get away and in order to heal she needed to stay away. She only returned now because she was lost and needed a way to solve her immediate situation with her pregnancy (or rather lack of funds to care for the baby since the father was only going to pay for an abortion..). We get a little bit of her past and I was heart broken for her. Truly. Shane grew up in a place he couldn't see himself getting away from which is why when he was 10 years old he made a plan to seize the world. He made most of what he planned come true but it cost him. He's such a sweet and caring guy and with the wealthy barracudas who knows how to play the game MUCH better than him it's not easy (which is why and how he got hurt). His plan is above everything. Surely above love because he never actually experienced it before. But when he falls for Priscilla he soon realizes that his priorities needs to change because what he has with her is far more important than the plan he made so many years ago when he didn't know any better. It's not that he lost his drive, it just changed a little, as was with Priscilla's view of her lack of plans and inability to stay in one place and set roots.
Priscilla and Shane's first sex scene was enchanting and beautiful. It was tender and caring and hot all together. It was intimate and loving and just perfect in any sense. A lot of things were said before-during-after that made it so special but I can't say any of those not to spoiler.
I have to admit that generally the turf of "surprise baby" isn't my thing.. as BABIES aren't my things and I think generally they don't belong in romance novels because they take away too much of the romance and relationship build up of the couple yet in this one it made perfect sense and worked in the best way. It didn't overpower the way Shane and Priscilla got together, it didn't affect them as a couple (much) and it somehow just worked! Truly Katy's ways are mysterious hehe
The way this book was concluded was perfect. Shane was put in a very uncomfortable position by Douglas Story too many times and Shane had to find his way around this man in order for him to get the promotion he wants but also, the woman he loves and respects, a woman who gets disrespected by her father on a daily basis -it makes Shane more than cringe. Also regarding Kaitlyn's biological father there was a resolve I very much enjoyed! GO Shane but mostly GO Priscilla!
A beautiful sensitive sweet and endearing love story. Priscilla finding her HEA with Shane was everything I wished it to be. The interaction between the sisters was very interesting, there is much under the surface because of the way they were brought up. Really can't wait for June when with Alice's story. We get a snippet of who's it going to be and I can't wait to see the cold Alice warm up :)

This book was one of my absolute favorites in the series. Funny enough with each book I read I feel the same - they are just getting BETTER AND BETTER. I loved the whole idea behind this one, the "reversed roles" and the way it wasn't in all aspects. I loved the fact they are different and yet they fit perfectly together. They are both gorgeous, and I don't just mean physically - they are these two amazing people, each in her/his own right and they deserved to get the best HEA possible.
This book was quite short but because Carlos and Alice have been working VERY closely for the past few years, the pace seems just right. Carlos was more in-tuned with himself, realizing that he craves his boss, even if she would never look his way. They live in worlds apart not to mention Alice is too strict to allow an "office romance". Alice knows that Carlos is the only man she ever trusted, she more than just enjoys his company and help around the office, he is invaluable to her. She NEEDS him and even though she knows he should have been promoted she is struggling with herself to let him go. But she won't allow herself to admit she wants more and she sees more in him than she even saw in anyone before.
Alice Story is in the best place she could wish for, opening her own import/export beverages company after leaving her father's company wasn't easy, but with Carlos Vega by her side (the only employee of her father's who came to work with her) and a little help from her sister and her husband two years ago, she has a profiting company. It's time to think about finding a man. She isn't thrilled about it.. Finding someone she could trust, or won't be interested in her for the wrong reasons or expect her to change and be less of a career woman is going to be hard.. But she needs to make it a priority if she wants kids.. and she does.. sooner rather than later. She is already in her 30s, it's time.
Carlos Vega, coming from a puerto rican background also wants something different than he has, all those one-night-stands are starting to get old, and yet, how can he look for someone special when his heart is already taken by his beautiful, successful, good hearted boss - Alice. He has been there for her from the start, he trusted her and this change turned out to be the best he made in his life. Yet what he truly wants he can't have.. or can he?
A business opportunity in Carlos' home ground brings a chance for them to spend a whole week together, this is the time for Carlos to make him move. But he needs to be more than just "persuasive" because though Alice wants him, she has a long list of misgivings about them being together. But Carlos now knows that she wants him too and he is willing to fight for what he wants.
There's more to the story, with a handsome millionaire who has a very interesting offer to Alice, both personally and financially but I'll leave you to find all about it yourselves. I enjoyed the way things played and also how Alice and Carlos dealt with the whole ordeal, by themselves and together.
What I loved most about this book was the special interaction between Alice and Carlos. They come from a very different background, they have similar yet so very different motivation in life and business, yet they want the same things in the end. While Alice was extremely careeristic, Carlos mostly got to where he wants and he doesn't need to rush to capture unseen goals. He loves what he does, he enjoys taking care of Alice (and the company), he wants to build a family, and he is willing to spare the time for all of that. Alice is VERY work oriented yet even she realizes things needs to change even a little so she could build the family she wants. Yet she won't give up her passions and position she worked hard to achieve. I really respected her for that. But I REALLY respected Carlos for throwing away so many traditional roles he grew up on to be on Alice's side. To be her second in a way. Yet it wasn't Alice leading the way in the romantic department, that was ALL Carlos. She wanted him, she craved him, and yet he was the one who made them work, he was the more dominant in this aspect which balanced them out beautifully. Also I loved that both were very gentle in their "leadership". Alice is a strict boss but a very fair one, who sees everyone around her and though Carlos "pushed" Alice a little to make her see they are right together, he was, too, very sweet and endearing even while bossing her around :) In so many books these days this book would have turned into a BDSM novel and I'm SO HAPPY this book isn't that AT ALL. Carlos and Alice KNOW what they want, they have parts in their lives they are the natural leaders but there is much more to them than just that.
