Cam’s life has moved in a different direction. His love of baseball took him from little league to major league. He now plays shortstop for a team in California, and is one of their best players. Unfortunately, his cavalier lifestyle garners as much attention as his athleticism. He’s a tabloid darling who is photographed all over the country with a different women. His mother makes no bones about how she wishes he’d settle down, preferably with Gia. Cam refuses to entertain the notion for two reasons. One, he doesn’t want to risk ruining a decades-long friendship. And two, he and Gia literally live on opposite sides of the country.
When an unexpected event reveals Jasper’s true colors, a heartbroken Gia scrambles to make the best of a bad situation by resolving to make use of her college degree to find a steady job. Tragedy strikes before she can follow through, nearly destroying her in the process. A concerned Cam flies to NYC to take care of her while she recovers from life’s latest curve ball. While there, he realizes for the first time how his feelings for her toe the line between platonic and romantic love. But again, he tamps them down due to the literal long distance stretching between them.
Gia eventually takes him up on his offer to come to California for a couple of weeks. During her stay, she and Cam finally acknowledge the sexual tension simmering between them and give in to their desires. Still resigned to the fact that they live too far apart to pursue anything serious, they decide to make the most of their casual fling. But their hearts refused to be ignored, and with each kiss and every touch, they fall more for one another.
When Gia receives an offer for her dream job in New York, Cam encourages her to pursue it even though it means letting go of any possibility of a future together. Gia is hurt by how easily Cam lets her go, and devotes herself to mending her still-fragile heart. This is difficult since she left a chunk of it in California. Her role in a production with a ballet company eventually brings her back to the state for a performance. Will it facilitate a reunion between her and the man she loves or merely serve as a stop on the company’s tour? You’ll have to read this story yourself to find out.
Beth Rinyu has been one of my go-to authors for years. I can always count on her to deliver a novel full of humor, emotion, and heat. This one is no exception. I laughed at some of the situations Gia found herself in, cried each time her heart broke, and fanned myself when things heated up between her and Cam. These characters are incredibly realistic, and I often felt immersed in a scene while reading. I cursed Jasper and his ruthless nature and crossed my fingers in hope that Cam would shove aside the hang-ups preventing him from going after Gia. This resulted in rapid page-turning as I raced to see if this young couple would get the happy ending they so richly deserved. I loved the cameos from other characters in previous stories. I’m sad to see this series come to an end, but look forward to Ms. Rinyu’s future releases.
This book was by far my favorite in the series, and I adored the other two books. Gia's book was just so emotional for me and I could completely relate to where she was at in her life. She went through many struggles but ultimately came out a stronger woman than when she began.
Cam, what can I say about cam except that I love him. Major league baseball player who would drop everything for his best friend Gia. *sigh*
Go read this and it will be the best decision you made all day.
Gia had always been the one that doesn't do relationships. Until life changes and things go down the drain. Heartbreak and sadness envelope Gia and there's only ever been one person for her to go to when she needs someone. Cam Hamilton her best friend.
Gia had always been Cams best friend. They have always been there for each other. When Gia needs Cam he's there for her but the feelings are changing and things happen. Can these two fight their feelings are do they give in? Read this #mustread book and find out. Highly recommended.
Beth Rinyu has written book three with heart and soul. I really like this book. Gia is a fly by the seat of her pants girl who has no need of growing up. All she cares about is getting by from month to month and almost doesn’t make it on several occasions. She refuses to be helped by the sorry boyfriend she has. Jasper is a wealthy ruthless business man that wants Gia where he wants her and when he wants eye candy with her long blonde hair, fantastic figure, due to hours of dancing and beautiful face Gia fits the bill. When Jasper destroys their relationship because of his own selfishness and has no consideration for Gia feelings she has had enough. Now she has to heal physically and emotionally. With the help of her sister and mom Gia needs to get her life on track. Who better to help her than her best friend Cam? They have been best friends as far back as either one can remember. There is nothing they can’t talk about. Cam was Gia first crush way back in junior high, and he been like a brother to her. Cam sees Gia as a little sister and their relationship means everything to both of them. When Gia goes to stay with Cam in L.A. where he plays for a pro sports team she can’t believe how wealthy Cam is. She just always saw him as her friend. Things heat up and they wonder will things be the same after they crossed the line. Neither wants to let go of the other but they have two different lives going in different directions. Gia is a dancer and Cam is a pro ball player. Can they recover and become close again? Beth Rinyu wrote this in first person with some sex and small amount of profanity. I think this book was well written with feeling and made me weep in places and laugh out loud in others. I’m giving Straight to the Heart four stars and I would recommend it as a must read.
