Controversial issues -- None (well maybe Zombie Genocide)
Excellent and uplifting ending that ties the series together without leaving you hanging.
I loved this series and have re-read multiple times and finally done the Audible. Which I would recommend.
Some positive things about this series, is for the most part it is an uplifting redemption story, where the good guys overcome. Characters don't drop dead left and right, killed off for the drama.
John Ringo is a well established author with an outstanding reputation. His stories are immersive. The stories lines mesh well and don't leave you guessing why a character did something.
Some of his stories are James Bondesque, which is just a matter of taste. Avoid his Ghost series if that bothers you, still excellent writing. (a couple of the Ghost series lose their oomph, but still are good)
Ringo more than succeeds in his goal of a science based Zombie Apocalypse tale. I have always somewhat enjoyed the genre in film but have always been frustrated by the ridiculous notion that Zombies (walking dead type) would over power the military. This problem in the genre is solved.
Where as the excellent WWZ told a story on a global scale and focused on how nations react and adapt Black Tide Rising focuses down in the weeds with individuals. As well as pointing out that military personnel are the best equipped to survive such a calamity and start putting it all back together.
His detailed knowledge of military history and operational capabilities is vast!
But it isnt all academic, there is rollicking bloody action! And for fans of TWD , wont take you long to figure out that all its protagonist and villains wouldnt last a week in a real Zombie Apocalypse.
Top international reviews
I just know that some people will hate it but the underlying storyline doesn't have the stuff of a full on-going series like the Honorverse or Lost Fleet worlds.
Intially did not want to read this as it is about a zombie appocalypse, not usually my scene, but boy was I wrong. Could not pur it down, the whole series is excellent.
