These stories definitely live up to their title. They are strange, yet wonderful. The characters were realistic, maybe a little simplistic but that is the beauty of a short story. They didn’t take long to read, but stayed with me for long after I had finished them just like a crazy dream. To be honest, I am not sure that I always get the morale of the story that I was reading. I am not going to summarize each story as I want you to check it out yourself. I did have 2 favorite stories that I do want to share with you.
The first one is Arnold’s Melting Foot. Arnold and Maureen live simple lives in their little house. They believe that the world is stable because they can name everything, even they are a “thing”. In their world, there is no place for the unknown. That is until the unknown catches up with them. This story made me laugh at Arnold and Maureen. Plus, it brought to life that not everything has to be known.
The other story I like Maps. Billy’s dad is a control freak, and when the world starts changing he loses it. Luckily for Billy, he has a friend to help him out. The ending was shocking and unexpected but fulfilling. I enjoyed the colorful imagery in this story and the way the characters interact.
Mike Russell is an awesome author. His stories are colorful and enchanting. I can’t wait to read some more!
This is my honest opinion. Thank you to the author and his team for my copy of this book.
Mike Russell is one of the authors I always say YES without blinking because I love that he brings something different to the table. His books always play with my head and leave me feeling odd in my body (I actually don't know how to explain it). So, I had to read his latest book Strange Secrets. This time we have 7 stories and each one is unique, strange and somehow magical.
My favorites stories were Missing Persons and Maps, even though the other stories also got me hooked from the first word. What happened with Missing Persons and Maps was that they defied my concept of reality and made me think about how I see the world and why do we see it that way. They provoke a movement in me, not only in my mind but also my emotions and feelings.
Mike has a changing writing style, it is always unique but sometimes is repetitive, sometimes is mysterious but it is always EXCELLENT. I will continue reading his books as long as he keeps writing them.

My favorite story was Reality. A woman realizes all of the fake things that surround her. Running in search of truth, the question is asked: can truth survive and what do we do with it if we find it? Though it was the shortest of the tales, it left me speechless in its honesty and accurateness.
Mike Russell is the author of Nothing is Strange, Strange Medicine, and Strungball.
For its thought-provoking stories and insight, I give Strange Secrets 4/5 starts
Strange Secrets is imaginative, magical, and bizarre in all the best ways -- each story had a different element that kept me glued to the pages. Seriously. I started reading Strange Secrets during my lunch break and I couldn't pull myself away when my break was over. This genre and style of writing are a little out of the ordinary for me but I really loved that this book confused me and made we work through the storyline myself; I was constantly having to flip back and forth through the pages trying to figure everything out.
Each chapter was so well thought out and developed that it was hard not to get caught up in the different stories. Overall, I would give Strange Secrets 5 stars! If you're looking for something interesting, unusual and thought-provoking, then I would definitely recommend this book to you!
