About the Author

Chuck Todd is NBC News Political Director and the moderator of Meet the Press, the flagship Sunday morning public affairs program and longest-running broadcast in television history. Prior to taking the helm of Meet the Press in September 2014, Todd served as NBC News Chief White House Correspondent (2008-2014) as well as host of MSNBC's The Daily Rundown (2010-2014).

Todd has held the role of Political Director since March 2007, leading all aspects of the news division's political coverage and analysis across every platform. He is also the editor of First Read, NBC's must-read guide to political news and trends in and around Washington, D.C.

Chuck Todd Writes Well-Researched Book on Obama

I think Chuck Todd did an excellent job explaining how Washington really works - particularly the struggles Obama has had implementing his agenda. Through well-researched examples, this book shines a light on the back rooms of Washington many never get to see. Obama came into his presidency promising change, and Chuck Todd goes into great detail to demonstrate why Obama will leave the White House with a country more divided then ever. Even though the media spotlight on Obama has been brighter than ever, this book shows you the unseemly underbelly of DC - and how Obama couldn't overcome the underbelly.

This book sets out to try and tackle an almost impossible task - evaluating Obama's legacy while he still has two years left of his presidency. I think Chuck Todd does the best he can doing what historians will be arguing about for the years to come.

A Solid Analysis of the Obama Presidency-In-Progess

Todd's book "The Stranger" deserves a solid 4+ stars for its clear-eyed insight and analysis of the Obama presidency through the summer of 2014. The book is balanced, if some somewhat critical of the adiministrations performance, but not its goals. Many observers have been disappointed by Obama's tendency to over-promise and under-deliver. The author explores the administrations management failures which, I suppose, should have been anticipated by a too starry-eyed electorate that chose an idealistic but inexpeienced leader. The book jumps around the time liine a bit but mainly to follow a theme. However, the many 1-star reviews on Amazon are unfair and obviously written by partisan denialists who are offended by Todd's analysis of the Obama presidency as largely (and unfortunately) a failed enterprise to the disappointment of many progressives, conservatives and centrists alike.
All in all a very worthwhile read if you want to better understand Obama's Presidency.

Chuck Todd exposes the inner workings of the White House staff and The President in this fascinating book. Reading it will not give you much encouragement that our country is in good hands, but it will show how the putrid world of politics affects all our lives. And, BTW, you should also understand that the moral, ethical, and political corruption that infects our government and political systems is by no means confined to this President and his party. Politics is driven by personal greed and ambition over all else. Knowing that at least spares one false hope that things will get better.

Fake Vaccination Program Not Covered

I find it interesting that Mr. Todd goes into such detail about the hunt and capture of Osama bin Laden and doesn't touch on the fake vaccination program that was such a big part of confirming his location, as reported by The Guardian July 11, 2011. Even if the National Security Advisor wasn't in on planning the operation (which I doubt) you'd think there would have been some kind of in-house reaction to the public health consequences for Pakistan and the rest of the world.

I am not finished but so far I love it. I find the author Todd sees the President much as I do. Obama is under estimated. He is highly intelligent, a free thinker. In the end he will be remembered as an excellent president that has tried hard under harsh judgements and sometimes hatred because of his race. I am an older white woman and I would vote for him again.
