Van Loon's remarkably sure hand with language and characterization sweeps us away to a land of unforgettable characters embroiled in a war against nature and culture, wolves and witches. The tender love story unfolds with delicacy; the mentorship story absorbs us as if we ourselves were students; the backdrop story of warring immortals provides an intriguing link to humans' spiritual quests on Earth.
Nominated for the James Tiptree Award, Stranger Skies appeals to adventurers, romantics, Young Adult, LGBT, herbalists, nature lovers and most of all to friends of the wolf. Book yourself an excellent trip.

About the Author
Katje van Loon writes books about witches, wolves, and warrior women, when zie's not digging through your trash. A child of two countries, Katje grew up without roots and still seeks to put them down.
She aspires to someday have a house big enough to hold all zir ideas, and still leave room for the husbeast and any other assorted beasts she's convinced to join zir on this journey called life.
Pronouns: zie/zir or she/her. Or they/them. Or whatever's easiest for you, honestly.

Though not my usual genre, I enjoyed the story line and journey of Silva/Thalaea as she grapples with her circumstances as a wolf flung into a new World in alternating human/wolf body forms...her experience of understanding the hierarchy of the pack from a human, and then a wolf perspective...loved the forest scenes and foraging Finding the True Woods---she was the true woods...looking forward to book 2. Conquering transition!
