Stranger Things Have Happened by Peter Tork is thirty – five minutes and eight seconds long and was released in 1994. This is Peter’s debut solo album and his only solo album to date. Granted he has performed with his band Shoe Suede Blues and with James Lee Stanley, but has not released another solo since the debut of Stranger Things Have Happened. The album in done in the genre of pop, rock and folk. One of the songs, Giant Step, is a remake of the Monkees Take A Giant Step and features Mackenzie Phillips of One Day At At Time fame singing backups. On the song Milkshake, Michael Nesmith and Mickey Dolenz are singing backups and Michael Nesmith again sings backup on MGB-GT. Only one that is missing is Davy Jones and you would have had a Monkees reunion of sort. Although the music critics gave the album high praise, the album and none of the songs charted. By entire beef with the album are two songs and they are Giant Step and Higher and Higher. Peter sings them like some kind of Rankin\Bass holiday Christmas special. Anytime I hear his version of the song I have a sudden urge to go on YouTube and look for a four finger Claymation figure doing a song and dance number. This is my first Peter Tork CD so I am not going to compare it to his other albums. Stranger Things Have Happened by Peter Tork gets an AA++.

Peter Tork's first ever solo album (think he'll ever release another one?). I raised an eyebrow when I learned of the existence of this album, & it got me wondering, what the heck does it sound like? Well, there's nothing really awesome here, & it ain't exactly the most profound album you ever heard, but it's clear Peter had a lot of fun making it, & the resulting album does indeed offer a solid dose of fun. The somewhat dreamy, album-opening title track features Tork going all out vocally, which is kinda cool as if he couldn't care less about all the criticism he's taken (even from fans) about his singing. Matched with a decent melody, this isn't bad. Of the 11 tracks, 6 are written by Peter ("Gettin' In" originally showed up on the Monkees' "Pool It" in a different version, & "MGB-GT", I believe, was a b-side also dating from the "Pool It" era), & they are generally okay--"Get What You Pay For" & "Miracle" are catchy, energetic rockers; but "Tender Is" feels quite half-hearted. His brother Nick contributes a decent song with "Pirates", & "Milkshake" is another catchy tune (Micky Dolenz & Mike Nesmith make cameo appearances on it) with some, uh, "interesting" lyrics. Certainly there is some lameness here (for instance, on the re-tooling of the Monkees tune "Take A Giant Step"), and Peter's often shaky vocals also detract considerably from the overall experience.
In short, "Stranger Things..." is a respectably crafted and slickly produced album (the running time is roughly 35 minutes long). It's certainly not great, but for those certain big Monkees' fans, this is worth hearing, & it's reasonably enjoyable in its own right.

If you only buy one Peter Tork album it probably shouldn't be this one. A couple of songs just didn't fit his voice well. Being his only solo album it's worth being part of a collection. Just not the main one. Several good songs on it still.

I had originally purchased the CD back in September 1997 at the Monkees reunion concert. I must of listened to this album over a hundred times. I was 15 when I purchased this CD and just loved it I will be 30 next month and STILL LOVE this album. A few years ago I somehow lost my CD. I wanted to cry when that happened so today I finally broke down and bought the MP3 album from Amazon once I came to the realization that I won't be finding my CD. I just hope that Peter makes some money from the MP3 album purchase.
Every song on this album are fantastic. There is not one bad song on this album they are all well written and greatly performed. I could go on and on about how awesome this album is. I just hope that by my purchasing the same album TWICE it shows how awesome it is. I just wish that Peter would put out a second album. I don't count his albums with his friend James Lee Stanley as a solo album. Peter if you are reading this your loving loyal fans are long over due for a second solo album.
My favorite song on this album is Milkshake I have probably heard that one when I had the actual CD over two hundred times probably more than that. I love that my favorite Monkee Michael Nesmith sings with Peter on this song along with Monkee Micky Dolenz.
Three more favorites of mine from the album are Higher and Higher, Get What You Pay For and Giant Step. I love Peter's revised version of the Monkees song Giant Step.
If you are a Monkees fan, Peter Tork fan or just looking for a new to you awesome fun addictive album to listen to then purchase this. I do highly encourage people to only buy the MP3 downloads and not the used CDs because Peter will only make money from the MP3 downloads and not the CDs sold by third parties. If you really love Peter and want to support him please only purchase the MP3 downloads.

This is a truly wonderful CD by Peter Tork. Milkshake is the best song ever, featuring Micky Dolenz and Mike Nesmith on backup vocals. Love it!

I enjoyed the cover version of Take A Giant Step, but really, for most of the album, it sounded like Tork was not even trying.
