Stranger In Town should be shown to every Political Science class in all institutions of higher learning. As movies often do, it gives us a look at what our nation was at a certain time in its history. It also shows us that political corruption, which is alive and well today, was just as alive and well 68 years ago. And can you imagine carrying a double-barreled shotgun down the main street of your home town with no one the least bit concerned or without being arrested? Yes, this movie tells us what we once were, and how much less we are today.

I saw part of this movie while I was in the hospital earlier this year. What I saw was so delightful, I wanted to see the whole movie, so I ordered it from Amazon. The first disk played one second of the movie, then it skipped a second, played another second, then skipped again, etc. I checked the whole movie; it was all like that. I didn't see any scratches, but I cleaned the disk thoroughly, and it still skipped. I sent the disk back and asked for a replacement. The second disk had the same problem, so I sent it back and asked for a refund. I'm very disappointed.

This Alpha video is a gem. All about corruption in a small town and its resolution. A big plus is the humor sprinkled throughout the film, some of it sarcastic. All actors fill their parts perfectly with Frank Morgan stealing almost every scene he`s in. Watch for Morgan making a speech in a courtroom near end of film. It ought to be in every history class in American schools. Film`s pacing is taut with no boring moments. Picture is clear and sound is very good. It is not closed-captioned. Run time is about 66 minutes.

This has a wonderful storyline with very good acting and characters. The "Wizard of Oz's" role as the Supreme Court justice undercover, makes you want to watch just to see how the town's villains will react at the conclusion of the film. Very well done and worth owning.

I agree with others: this would be a great poli-sci lesson for young people. It shows us what small-town America was once like, when corrupt operatives ran the show. Better still, it shows us what a smart team of finer folk can do to break down the old system. Frank Morgan is great, as ever, but so are the other players. There's a lot of humor sprinkled throughout and the pace is steady. Richard Carlson was wonderful in "Young in Heart" and I like him here, too. Love looking at the sets-- the old hotel and barber shop, offices, and the courtroom. The way we were.

This movie is a favorite of mine, so I ordered the DVD from Amazon. The picture froze after 1-2 seconds on our Sony DVD player. It played on our Panasonic BMP-BDT320 Blu-ray player but the picture quality was horrible. The DVD apparently was transferred by Alpha Video from a VHS or Beta tape. The picture was blurry with poor detail and contrast, as one would expect from such a transfer. Also, the bottom of the picture showed continuous videotape player tracking noise. In short, I found the DVD to be unwatchable. I will wait to view the film again the next time it is shown on TCM, which has a nice print of the movie.

Glad I came across this classic, It reminds us of our responsibility as US Citizens to protect those freedoms our fore fathers died to give us and to protect them.

I like old movies so I liked this one as usual. It's a good story with a good plot. Frank Morgan, from Wizard of Oz, is the star and does a good job.
