Emily Senecal is originally from Davis, California, and continues to live in Northern California. Her first favorite books were "Anne of Green Gables" and "The Secret Garden," leading to a lifelong love of reading. Her inspiration to write light novels of suspense came from the battered and adored Mary Stewart, Georgette Heyer, Patricia Wentworth and Elizabeth Cadell paperbacks that have moved with her from home to home over the years. She regularly shares her experiences as an independent author on her blog, encouraging others to write and self-publish.

Her published work includes 17 novels of romantic suspense/adventure and one novel.

Okay so I get most of my books free and came across books 1-8 free somehow I read book two first and then went beck when I realized I had all eight,. So I started reading and couldn't put them down. I loved the books for the most part. The characters in books 1-4 are my favorite. Book 7 was a bit boring dealing with stolen id instead of murder, book eight took a few chapters to bring in some of the other characters. All of the books have major typing errors and need proof read, which is the only reason for four stars instead of five, really it was that bad at times. The writing style and themes were nearly identical but it still wasn't boring. I bought book nine and plan it to be about the same .

Not really a stand alone book -- Part of a series

This is the first in a series of 8 (I found them all free and read them all). I question the classification of mystery because the mystery is a background to the story. This book (and the rest of the series) is well written descriptions of the emotions, backgrounds, feelings and ordinary activities of people who happen to come in to danger and mystery in a small way. This one has a bitter sweet ending so read the next for a better ending. Don't read this book or the series for the mystery, just enjoy getting to know the characters. Also note these characters are the main characters in books 1 - 4, and connected in all the others.

I got these books as freebies and started reading the series withough any great expectations. I was thoroughly enthralled by the series - the story, the writing, the characters. I am attracted to series where the characters are people who become my friends. Lainey and the others in the books have definitely become people I want to spend more time with. I stayed up last night to finish reading the first 3 books without stopping. Lainey is 18, innocent, yet self reliant at the same time; she has her head on straight; while she comes from a dysfunctional family and has not developed many close friendships as a result of that, she learned to choose her few close friends wisely. She gets thrown into an unexpected chance meeting with someone who she immediately trusts not to harm her. I highly recommend these books at any price! Her reflections on her home life are commingled with her reactions to her encounter with a mysterious stranger who begins to change her attitude toward her future and her desire to develop meaningful relationships. She's been loner most of her life and seldom encountered people who actually cared about her. A mystery ensues and close friendships begin to develop. The book is interesting and the descriptions of Catalina's history and topography is fascinating

I have enjoyed the books from 1 to 5, but I am not convinced at all about books 6 and 7 (which I am currently finishing). The main character is just too "gushing" for my liking and her immediate friendships with amazing people seem really unrealistic. Probably introducing new characters was not a good idea and the same adventures could have been written around the main characters of books 1 to 3.
I am giving 4 stars to book no. 1 because it was thoroughly enjoyable, even for a person like me who is not into romanticism much.
