So, even though the actual measurements of the garment are closer to my real size, it's still too big. I'm pretty sure it's because of the nature and design of this particular dress. Being strapless, it needs to fit a lot snugger than a dress you would wear that's held up by straps. Also, unlike a lot of strapless dress styles, this one doesn't have any elastic or sticky trim to keep it up. It DOES have boning throughout, however, which is a nice feature that helps it stay in place (once you have the right size) and keeps its shape.
I returned the garment and ordered the X-SMALL, which arrived quickly. It fits nice and snug and measures at 31" bust and 25" waist (which is NOT what the chart tells you!)
Overall a wonderful dress; nice fabric, classic style that is flattering on most figures, understated and elegant, well-manufactured. Very clean, very sweet!
...And I lived happily ever after in my pretty satin dress. I hope this helped!
The dress fits me like a glove on top. I ordered large. My measurements are 40, 29, 38. Just an FYI, the dress label says it is 100% polyester/100% acetate/professional dry clean only -- and if you accidentally spill water on it it will leave a water stain. I accidentally got water on mine when I was trying it on and it left a small stain -- but it's in the corner so it's not that bad. Just be careful of water and enjoy your dress!
The okay: One thing I found strange was that it did not have a hook-and-eye on the top of the zipper, so the dress seemed a little undone on top. Delivery-wise, this dress did arrive quickly, but the satin had strong crease lines in it that had to be steamed out. Regarding size, I had read many conflicting reviews and though I wear 6 in jeans, I decided to order L instead of M to err on the side of caution. The dress was a little big, especially in the bust, but my mother sewed in the straps and it helped keep everything in place. I would say this dress on me ran true to size and I probably should have ordered medium (however, after being in my wedding dress all day this was quite comfortable to put on!). So order with care. Even though this dress is lined, in the white I had to wear a slip as my strapless bra seam showed through on the side.
The bad: There were little fly away threads all over the seams, especially on the boning in the bodice. The zipper had a six inch piece of thread just hanging off the top. The hem was the worst though, in some places the threading was crooked and in others it seemed like whoever sewed it just stopped. The good part is that at least most of these mistakes were on the inside and I was able to have the hem fixed.
Overall, I'd say this dress is worth a shot if you want something that looks nice, is comfortable, and won't break the bank at the same time. I will forgive much of the construction issues because this dress was inexpensive and most of the problems were easily fixed. However, I might pass on this if you are ordering last minute and time is not a luxury. I give the dress a solid 3.5 stars and bumped it to 4 because of price and that shipping was fast and problem free.
