Format: Kindle Edition
Of course an author can choose to charge what he will for a book, but the stench of hypocrisy emanates from so many earnest writers on IT who chose to price their Kindle editions at the same or a higher price than the paper editions of their work. However irritating this pricing decision is, it should of course be irrelevant to the question of the equality of the book. And yet--perhaps the same cast of mind that chose to gouge on pricing simply because it can is also unable to see the main point of IT and how to use it in society and business.

The book is also out of date (as at 2011). The conclusion of Part III states "We expect the adoption of electronic commerce applications by existing or new market makers to grow rapidly as the cost of communicating information between firms decreases." Even in 1994 when this book was published, this was obvious and was already happening. So much of the book is written in tis style, of the over-cautious second rank academic who neither has the confidence of his own judgement or in his own research data, nor is able to accept change that has just happened.

Another example of the book being oout of date is that it spends much in on the question of client-server architecture and how this will displace the mainframe. Questions of iPhones, IPads and other smart devices seem not to be a factor in the IT environment as conceived in this over-priced book.

The book does however have many worthy and workmanlike features. To give one example, Strassman is quoted and his ideas used. Strassman was man who really did understand what IT can do. "Many methods for giving advice about computers have one thing in common. They serve as a vehicle to facilitate proposals for additional funding.
