My son has recently been getting into art. He's only been doing it for 7 months, but this is what he's been making since he got this paper.
I'm going to let him take over now.
This paper is phenomenal. It handles my markers really well and allows a lot of blending. I'm using a set of bic 36 fine point. Then I go on top of the markers with colored pencils. For this I'm using prismacolor 48 set. Since I used the markers, the paper is now the color I want it to be. And the markers dont even change the texture of the paper. Using the markers let's my color pencils be more vibrant and realistic. And it allows me to go in and strengthen my highlights. So with the pencils, I just color the image. I typically use light layers. This paper handles my technique amazingly.

I had to buy a ton of this paper for both a landscape painting course (watercolor) and an advanced drawing course (Sharpie and charcoal). That being said, the paper did work decently with watercolor, but adding too much water tended to warp the paper, and I had to flatten out my paintings. Not a big issue, just not ideal for a painter who uses that medium. On the contrary this paper absorbs ink so well and gives charcoal such a smooth, calming feel. No resistance whatsoever.

Best paper ive used

I spend about 8-10 hours a day drawing and designing stuff and that requires alot of paper. I also have a focus on clean lines and sharp geometry. Because of that i have a ongoing need for good paper (and believe me there are crappy papers out there) and i really cant afford problems. This Strathmore Bristol 300 series is by far my favorite. I get the 19x24" pad and cut it to size. Its smooth as silk and perfect for illustration. It doesnt bleed, even when you hold a alcohol marker (prismacolor is good) to it for a while. Sharpies work well on this and so do microns and Copic multiliners (u can find all this on Amazon ). Its absorbent enough to not smudge your black ink unless you run you hand over where you just previously left fresh ink (you shouldnt do that with ANY paper tho lol madness). Ive even had success using watercolor on this bristol, you just ought to tape the sides down to prevent excessive warping. All in all this paper is phenomenal . I highly recommend it. Top quality. Strathmore makes good stuff all around too ; good brand .

Pros:
- Nice weight to it.
- Wonderful size! I fit it in my purse and it would, naturally, fit in a backpack or messenger bag just fine.
- Works beautifully with markers!! Minimal bleed through and doesn't make the ink feather.
- I've used the following markers with it: Copic Sketch and Copic Ciao markers (primarily what I've used), Spectrum Noir, Winsor & Newtorn Brushmarkers (formerly Letraset brand, but W&N took over), Marvy Le Plume brush markers (second most used; I love these markers, btw!! very affordable and A+ alternative to Copics), and Prismacolor brush markers.
Cons:
- It DOES absorb a good bit of ink, so you'll go through your markers faster. (This is true of any bristol.)
- I REALLY WISH that any brand would make these kinds of paper with spiral binding!!! I absolutely hate the glued binding. Papers tend to fall out and it annoys me. (Though this has better binding than cheaper brands. Pages don't fall out /as/ easily.)

Inexpensive and great with ink

This pad works fine with inks I use for calligraphy. I don't find much in feathering and it takes a nice edge. (I'm referring to the smooth. I haven't tried the vellum.) It can be corrected for small errors but can't be used for larger or severe ones because with scraping it forms a hole fairly quickly. It can be printed on a small inkjet (mine is a Canon) but a wide carriage printer would be necessary to print on 9x14 inch. I cut down to 8x10 or 5x7 and the printer I have (MX922) works just fine. The heavier series (400 and 500) also look good, but I haven't tried printing with them, just hand lettering. For calligraphy, inked artwork, and acrylics I find the Strathmore better than other brands I've tried. For me, this is the one.

Haven't tried it often, but I plan on washing and marbling my Bristol board and drawing with ink on top of it. So far my results have been great, looking forward to expending my style of drawing and will be using this paper.

I’ve always used what ever paper I have laying around. Then I got this paper as a gift. What difference. It’s very smooth but can still get very dark. Plus with smooth paper it’s easier to get done details. I highly recommend this paper.
