The MicroStream uses 1 AAA battery that l have had to replace about 3-6 times since I have owned it. I have had this light since mid-June of 2015. This conclusion on battery life isn't scientific but I am pleased with the battery life especially since my MicroStream sees very regular use. The momentary switch feature is really convenient, too. The specific momentary switch function on the MicroStream will allow for the light to be activated for as long as you maintain at least 1.35 pounds of pressure on the button. To fully actuate (cla-click) the off/on button you must apply, once, a force of 2.75-3 pounds on it. Once you have fully actuated the button, you need not maintain pressure on the cap, unlike a momentary switch. As far as durability goes, this light seems reasonably durable as mine has survived multiple drops on wood flooring and concrete at about waist height. The affordable price is a big plus, too. As far as I know, I will not be replacing my MicroStream with another brand of EDC friendly flash lights. I genuinely recommended this light for everday carry.
I like the twist cap switches on the Inova flashlights as they make it almost impossible to accidentally turn on the lights in a pocket or belt pouch. The push button switch on the Streamlight proved to be quicker and easier to use just as we expected. What I didn't expect was the amount of force required to put the light in constant mode. Carrying the penlight clipped in a pocket, I believe it would be difficult for the light to be turned on accidentally. I do believe that it would be vulnerable if carrying it in a soft pouch or loose in a pocket. If I need another penlight I will buy a Streamlight. However, for lights carried in pouches, loose in pockets or jammed into a drawer or glove compartment, I will stick with Inova. Both lights are durable, dependable, well made and have strong pocket clips.
My wife chose the Streamlight to carry at work as a night shift nurse. Her only real question about it is how does the manufacturer intend for the lanyard to be attached? She slipped the split ring onto the pocket clip but does not think it very secure.

I HATE triple-A batteries but this thing is an "energy-sipper". I rarely need to change the battery and it is my most used light.Read more
