The MicroStream uses 1 AAA battery that l have had to replace about 3-6 times since I have owned it. I have had this light since mid-June of 2015. This conclusion on battery life isn't scientific but I am pleased with the battery life especially since my MicroStream sees very regular use. The momentary switch feature is really convenient, too. The specific momentary switch function on the MicroStream will allow for the light to be activated for as long as you maintain at least 1.35 pounds of pressure on the button. To fully actuate (cla-click) the off/on button you must apply, once, a force of 2.75-3 pounds on it. Once you have fully actuated the button, you need not maintain pressure on the cap, unlike a momentary switch. As far as durability goes, this light seems reasonably durable as mine has survived multiple drops on wood flooring and concrete at about waist height. The affordable price is a big plus, too. As far as I know, I will not be replacing my MicroStream with another brand of EDC friendly flash lights. I genuinely recommended this light for everday carry.
Absolutely fantastic light. Does it last forever? No. But its AAA batteries so who cares. It does last a long time though and I keep AAAs in my truck and around the house so if it dies i just pop another one in and I'm off. LOVE THIS LIGHT! About to buy another as a backup in my go-bag.
As you can see in the pict, mine is well worn and still going strong.
Love the hat clip option too.
The light is very durable. My brother once lost his for around a month before finding it in a parking lot at work; 85 had been run over and rained on, and besides cosmetic damage came out unscathed. My light has had alkaline batteries explode inside of it and is still fully functional.
The light is intelligently designed for every day carry and use. The tail cap is designed in such a way that it can easily be turned on when needed but has never been activated in my pocket whether clipped or carried loose. One complaint here is that the pocket/hat clip quickly loses its tension and must be bent back into shape. I almost lost the light because of this on more than one occasion.
This light is adequately bright for individual use. In a pinch I have even used it to illuminate job sites. It is far too bright for pupil exams.
