Returning characters have tweaked movesets making them feel different from past titles.I like how the select screen give suggestions on characters to choose from. When selecting character it displays Type (speed, standard, tricky, power), range (close-range, mid-range, long-range), and ease of use (easy, normal, hard). Able to make face expressions on select screen which the battle stage loadsGame shows battle damage, cuts, bruises as battle goes onThere’s Real Time Commentary. AI just reacts to what you do simulating commentary from fighting game tournaments. It gets old after a while, and can turn it off if you want--Gameplay:This version of Street Fighter is heavy on the offense and counters with its drive systemTwo control schemes: Modern (easy one button mode), and Classic (must do quarter circle moves, no auto combos). You are not at a huge advantage either way as thing game is heavy on the counters. More about positioning and doing perfect counters than move execution. Classic will give you more options, and modern is easy has faster execution but opponents can more easily read your movesModern controls are similar to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition, Persona 4 arena ultimax, King of Fighters 14, Tatsunoko vs capcom.If you use this mode; you lose access to wide range of moves/abilities.Auto combo: Hold R2 and press circle, square, or X repeatedlySpecial moves: Just hold R2, Triangle, and a direction (right, left or down). Add Circle to do super arts (use 2x super meter)There’s also Dynamic controls where you can just button mash and AI picks moves for you. Great for kids and toddlers who just want to press buttons and win. Can’t use this playstyle onlinePrefect move execution. Hit box controller has advantage-Drive Gauge:Basically a stamina meter. Max 6 bars. It does autofill overtime (except when you get stunned). If you use it all you get into a burnout state where you get grey meter build up and cant’ use drive guage until it reaches max bar. No real comeback mechanic (drive impact/parry being core defensive measure), so must keep this in mind and not overspend on meter-Abilities for Drive Gauge:Drive Impact: Cost 1 bar Basically a focus attack from Street Fighter 4.Drive Parry: Cost 1/2 bar. If you do a perfect parry you gain meterOverdrive: Cost 2 bars. Do an EX Super MoveDrive Rush. Basically a dash cancel. Drive Rush from a parry costs 1 Drive bar. Drive Rush from a normal attack costs 3 Drive bars.Drive Reversal. Cost 2 bars. Counter attack while blockingYou also lose Drive Gauge if you take chip damage while blocking, when you get punish counteredA punish counter is when do a move with a lot of animation frames and your opponent hits you before you hit them. Example: you jump in for an dive kick attack, and your opponent does a shoryuken or heavy uppercut-There's also your traditional super meter you can utilize (separate from gauge meter)--World Tour ModeSingle player campaign. Instead of cutscene then battle type story; you get to create your own character and interact semi-open world citiesTakes around 15-20 hours to beat main campaign. Around 25+ hours to unlock everythingStory is very generic and just a reason to get to and fight core roster. It’s basically a glorified tutorial teaching you core gameplay mechanicsCharacter customization is good. You choose your base attacks from the original roster of characters and able to select special moves from that character or othersSpecial moves must be unlocked then paid for using in-game currencyYou can add as many special moves as you like as long as the inputs don’t overlap. So you can’t have sumo headbutt and sonic boom the same time.You can unlock special moves by talking to characters you want to unlock the moves and give them gifts or show that you’ve used their moves a set number of times before they give you a new moveThere is a grind late game as you need to focus on gear upgrades, consumables for temporary stat boosts, and skill treeGear can be bought in the in-game shop with in-game money. Able to dismantle unwanted gear for parts/fabric and add it to existing gear to boost its stats , or add dyes to them to change color. You can also get parts/fabric/dyes by doing NPC side quests, or opening chests/crates/etc in hub world citiesSkill tree basically just upgrade base stats. You can choice from one or the other as you advance branching paths. You can gain exp by doing missions, side quests or bump into enemies encounters in hub world. Enemies do display their own level above their head so you know much damage they can do.Some missions have you do mini-games that test your input timing and reaction speedThere’s a night and day mode. Doesn’t change the environment much aside from it being darker outside. Some missions are restricted to the night/day cycle. I really like the battle system, focus on skill with meter management and timing while giving casual players easy accessibility
