- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2010Platform For Display: PLAYSTATION 3Edition: TournamentVerified PurchaseWhen I saw the big price drop on this stick recently, I finally gave in and ordered it. I kept thinking about getting one for when Super Street Fighter 4 comes out, but I'd keep changing my mind at the last minute. With the 2 newer models, maybe this one wasn't as good as those? After reading that they're essentially the same but with different looks, it just sealed the deal along with the price drop. If you're sick of having trouble doing special moves thanks to the ps3's d-pad with its separate buttons for each direction, this will definitely help.
Right out of the box, everything worked perfectly (and smelled good too). The stick isn't as heavy as some wusses made it sound, and won't shift around when you set it down on a table or in your lap. The button layout is perfect, though I'm sure with a couple of games (like SSF2HDR), you'll need to change the button configuration in-game to make everything work best for you. Playing HD Remix with the stick was MUCH easier than with the controller, though I thought it'd take some time since I rarely got to play games in arcades over the years. The buttons have rounded tops, and I prefer them that way over buttons that kind of go inward. The cable's a good length too, and unless you have a massive tv far away from your couch, I don't see anyone having complaints about it being too short.
There have been some complaints about the stick using a square gate, and how an octagon or rounded one is better for certain characters (ones that use circular commands for special moves instead of charging ones). I noticed the square gate immediately when I moved the stick around, and was a bit concerned that it could ruin special moves, but of course there weren't any issues. Wouldn't these FightSticks have lower ratings if that were the case? I was pulling off Hurricane Kicks and Dragon Punches right off the bat. My only gripe is a small one, and it's that I don't like how clicky everything is. That's probably just because I don't play at arcades very much, but even the stick clicks, and that's not something I remember hearing on any cabinet. 'no big deal though, and since you'll be focused on playing the game, I doubt anyone else will notice.
What else is there to say? While the newer models might look cooler, and they -are- a little smaller, this FightStick is excellent and since you're saving a good amount of money, you might as well go with it since it's a little heavier. You can always customize it too since it was made with the super hardcore arcade stick fans in mind, and opening it up is easy. But for those who just plain want to buy an arcade stick and play upon opening it, it's hard to recommend any others over this for the price. Good job Mad Catz. And here I was thinking the only good thing they did was the light gun for House of the Dead 3.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2010Platform For Display: PLAYSTATION 3Edition: TournamentVerified PurchaseI haven't been playing with this stick for very long so I will amend my review if I find new information on this. I also haven't played at an arcade since I was a kid so I'm going on my memory here. The presentation is amazing for this package, but it's a little bit off-putting when I first tried it out. The buttons are very sensitive but they don't feel as sturdy as arcade buttons. They almost feel loose as if you'll accidentally press them. There's no tactile feedback because they feel so sensitive. I don't know if these will last in the long-run but if they give out on me I'll come back and edit this review.
The sole purpose of this product is usability. The buttons work well (for now) but my main problem is the stick. It's sitting in a square box... meaning instead of being in a circle it sits in a square so when I'm playing Super Street Fighter and I do a combo: down, down-right, right. There's no way to tell where right is without constant practice. I found myself going past that point over and over and over and I was missing my combos. Am I remembering it incorrectly? Didn't the old arcade units have rounded movements for the sticks?
Anyway, I feel that a lot of people are giving this a 5/5 just to feel that they justified their purchase. I think that the quality is top notch, but it just doesn't feel right. After I play for a few hundred hours I'll see if I can get into the swing of things, and I'll come back and amend this review.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2010Platform For Display: PLAYSTATION 3Edition: TournamentVerified PurchaseHalf the reason I bought this stick was to use it with my fighting games for the PS2 such as Guilty Gear, Street Fighter Alpha Collection, Capcom VS SNK 2, etc. I found out the hard way that it just won't work. This is unacceptable since the 360 version will work with original XBOX games on the 360. Madcatz says that it may be fixed with a system update, but since Sony has dropped the whole BC thing anyway, that will never happen. I'm extremely unhappy with this purchase and will most likely be selling it soon.

This stick is very high quality.
Buttons, Stick, and body, everything is as good as it gets.
Very modifiable.
The interior is labeled and everything screws together.
Plenty of space for multiple PCBs.
Easy to change artwork.
::Cons
This stick does not support PS2 games on the PS3.
This stick does not support PS2.
If you plan on using it with a PC prepare to be disappointed.
The stick does not officially support PC, but for $150 I expect this thing to come with a jet pack and maby a few machine guns.
I have yet to get the stick to work with a computer, if you read on Madcatz site they say it is an Nvidia Chipset issue, not so, it is a USB specification issue, which means that support is going to be random.
A VIA chipset is needed for the stick to be recognized.
Intel computers seem to be the only ones that support the stick without having to buy a PCI USB port expander.
::Conclusion
If Madcatz, or someone else fixes PC support, the PS3 SFIV TE stick gets five stars.
Until then it gets only three.
I recommend a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 PS3 stick.
Flawless PC support, and similar hardware, for $30 cheaper.
If you still are set on buying this stick, and ever want to use it for PC, some modification will most likely be needed.
I have mine setup as a Dual PCB using the XBox 360 Street Fighter IV Fightpad.
PC support fixed, warranty void.

LexehellReviewed in France on January 12, 20105.0 out of 5 stars Le meilleur stick pour les jeux de baston

Platform For Display: PLAYSTATION 3Edition: TournamentVerified PurchaseHatte vorher einen "Street Fighter X Tekken: Arcade FightStick PRO".

Shehzaan AbdullaReviewed in the United Kingdom on September 24, 20155.0 out of 5 stars The arcade stick that popularised Sanwa
Platform For Display: PLAYSTATION 3Edition: TournamentVerified PurchaseSanwa Denshi, the venerable Japanese company responsible for the ultra-sensitive components found in Japanese arcade cabinets, has always been the gold standard for quality parts that other manufacturers could only jealously imitate at best. There was a time when the only way to get quality components was to buy them piecemeal and assemble a stick yourself, or go through clandestine import channels.
Then this stick came along. The logo may say Mad Catz, but the components are unmistakably Sanwa. Riding on the back of the explosive rebirth of the fighting genre ignited by Street Fighter IV this stick was the easiest way for those in the west to get their hands on a quality stick en masse. I can safely assert this one stick alone is responsible for turning more people onto playing stick than any other that came before or after.
And it's down to a few key points:
1) Again, the parts are pure Sanwa. 100% identical to those used in arcades.
2) The construction of the box itself: It's a heavy, bulky slab of a button-housing. The housing itself may well be the only aspect of the sticks' design that Mad Catz themselves are responsible for, but its calibre stands aside that of the Sanwa parts it houses.
3) Modability: Removing the screws on the top (you will require a non-standard screwdriver!) allows the user to access the inside of the stick, making swapping out the artwork plate, buttons or the stick relatively painless - all without voiding the warranty.
If nothing else the ease of modability also extends the lifespan of the stick, allowing the user to cheaply replace failing components if and when necessary.
To put this purchase into perspective: Back when I bought this stick I was a poor student for whom £80 for a novelty videogame controller was no small investment. And I don't regret a penny I spent on it. The quality and responsiveness in comparison to cheap £30-40 sticks is night and day. This is the real deal.
yumeReviewed in the United Kingdom on July 1, 20114.0 out of 5 stars Very good controller with sanwa components, be aware PC gamers for compatibility
Platform For Display: PLAYSTATION 3Edition: TournamentVerified PurchaseThe controller is very good. Has turbo configurable on the 8 buttons,ps button and let you select what the stick simulate (left analog, right analogh,or directional button). For pc gamers: The ps3 version is only compatible with some USB controller. If you want full compatibility buy the microsoft version that has Drivers on PC. Fortunately on my asrock vision i had a USB 3.0 port on the back that is compatible with the controller (the only ports on the 8 i have...). I gave 4 stars for the PC issue, but if i remember correctly on the box they doesn't claim pc compatibility,so let's say it's not their fault but it's a problem anyway...
