Realistic and Street Fighter 2. Two things I would guess you do not normally associate together.

But that is the draw here, they try and makes the fights seem real.
They make the Hurricane Kick look like a legitimate martial arts move in this movie.
All the fights are amazing (other than maybe Dhalzim and Honda...) and all the characters (that were around at the time) make an appearance (even if it's just a short cameo).

Top it off with the best soundtrack in an anime EVER! (at least in the US dub).

Its not deep, or thought provoking and it does have some slow spots (Ryu walking around).

But I have been waiting for the Capcom crew to crank out another animated StreetFighter movie and they have NEVER delivered within 100 miles of how good this one is. This one is THE best Street Fighter movie animated or otherwise out there.

Even though it not uncut version. I'm still a big fan of the video game series. I wish they made more anime movies or a tv series. Cause live action can never do the franchise justice.
The anime movie is a a lot of fun. And is a joy to watch, and a bit of a easter egg hunt with all the cameos and references to the source material.

If you are a fan of Japanese animation and Hong Kong kung fu movies, this movie will be a pleasure to watch. It stays true to the original video game, it shows the awesome skills of Ryu as he teams up with his long lost fellow student Ken Masters, who almost is the equal to Ryu, to fight the evil Bison with his collection of fighters. The animation is very well done and the movie has a cool soundtrack, if you like rock and alternative. I'm a big Bruce Lee fan, so I wanted Fei Long, the mirror image of Lee, to have had a bigger part in the movie. The fight between Ryu and Fei Long had to be one of the best, it's one of my favorite scenes in the movie. I hope, if it's not out already, they will have a sequel to this anime. So if you haven't seen it yet and you like the video games that it is based on, I would highly recommend it.

Before I review the movie itself, I want to start by letting everyone know that I paid close to $40 for a new, sealed copy of this, when the seller actually ordered it from Walmart.com for $17 and had it shipped directly to me. So all he did was flip it for double profit, which I guess is fair in this capitalistic market, but I think the seller could have used a little more discretion about using this practice. So save some $$$ and try walmart.com first. It is an out of print DVD, so I believe they might be one of the last retailers with remaining new old stock.

Now that's out the way, on to the DVD review.

I had this movie on VHS years ago before DVD was the standard medium, and I still think it is still the best representation of Street Fighter in animation to date. The animation is excellent, and the characters' personalities are very faithful to the how they should be. My only nitpick about the movie, after watching it again after all these years, is that the constant background music seems overdone, and tends to get annoying and overbearing at times, which I find a little distracting. Otherwise, I still enjoy this SF movie the most and recommend it to all fans of the SF saga.

Compared to all the other Street Fighter series out there, this one has it all!
The style of animation is both awesome and sophisticated. Gisaburo Sugii packed in as many characters as he could into this one, and dissapointed you will not be.
SF Alpha and SF the series tried to bring in characters and all, but they either lacked in wide shot of the fighting scenes or didn't bring in the rest of the gang. Everyone in this movie fights, and everyone shows off their awesome fighting abilities. Yup, even Dhalsim (scronny indian guy in video game) looks all ripped up and badass in this one.
No complaints on this one, and i dare anyone find any SF movie or any anime at that that can top this certain classic. a must buy even if you watched it a 100 times.

This is the best movie I have ever seen based on a video game. The source material is used well and is well respected in this movie, the characters are awesome the fight scenes are amazing. M. Bison is an awesome villain. However, many characters are used in cameos and often times are unneeded such as the fight between Zangief and Blanka. But other than that, this is a great movie and is definitely better than the live-action film.

I wasn't too happy with this item because there was no menu screen and no features. It was also lacking in footage. When I read the description for the movie on amazon it mentioned that this was the uncut version and it also came with the japanese uncut release . The only positive thing I could say about this is that it's the street fighter 2 movie.

Street Fighter II - The Animated Movie is amazing. It's without-a-doubt the best anime I've seen. I'm a devoted Street Fighter fan and truely enjoyed seeing a story-line and characterizations fit to serve Street Fighter. The only drawback was the lack of DVD features. Wait, maybe I should rephrase that...There are no DVD features. The DVD has no menu and begins like a VHS would. The only feature it has is that it allows you to skip scenes. I have not seen the Japanese version but from what I hear, this edition is an edited version of that one. I still believe this is a good buy.
