Street Survivalism : A Practical Training Guide To Life In The City (Crisis Preparedness Trilogy Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 15 ratings

NEW FOR 2022! The 4th edition has been greatly improved and refreshed with more on-point content and loads of new techniques and strategies.

The world is changing. Are you paying attention? Are you prepared?

There’s now a growing number of deprived, marginalized and desperate people everywhere. Someone, somewhere, is paying attention and will try to take advantage of everything and everyone.

Volatility and instability: these are important concepts to understand and keep in mind during crises.

It’s not just the constant up and down of prices and market indexes, but the shifting of rules, regulations, safety, and everything else that makes life very unpredictable and hard to plan for.

It means you no longer can go out wearing fancy clothes, jewelry and watches like life’s a party and there’s no tomorrow. It means you can’t just pick a nice spot outside your preferred restaurant and be cool about it. Or park your car anywhere and forget it while you go up to a friend’s apartment to enjoy a game and a few drinks.

“People assume civilizacional collapse looks like Mad Max, when it really looks like rolling blackouts, decimated infrastructure, and the inability to buy baby formula in what was once the 1st world” (Auron MacIntyre)

The reality of real-world crises is
Thirdworldization, not Hollywood fantasies of apocalypse, nor prepping myths and misconceptions of unmitigated anarchy. A crash in the standard of living and quality of life: recession, decadence, volatility, instability, crime and violence, disruptions. That’s life in Developing and Third World countries, the everyday of common people in unprivileged places.

Fabian Ommar presents a program for city dwellers looking to improve their situational awareness, street smartness, personal safety, fitness and other urban skills for normal times and turbulent periods. No special gear required. Practice on your own environment and home. Read to learn something, go out and practice to learn a lot more.

  • Become more physically, mentally and spiritually prepared.
  • Develop the correct mindset.
  • Learn to read, scout and map your neighborhood and town.
  • Learn how to scavenge, find water, food, shelter, and how to stay safe while outside in fluid and heterogen environment of city streets.
  • Mix wilderness and urban strategies and use low-budget, creative ideas and exercises to keep mobility, find and acquire resources, and develop fitness for the challenging times ahead.

A reality-based, no-nonsense preparedness and survival training program based on observation, direct experience and research of the practices and lifestyle of the true urban survivors: the street people and the homeless.

“These are times of civilizacional changes. And change at this scale always bring disruptions and turmoil to societies. Thirdworldization is coming everywhere. We must prepare for a more unsafe, volatile world”.

My name is Fabian Ommar, I’m an author & engineer born and living in Brazil, a developing country full of contrasts and inequality, marred by longstanding deficiencies and recurrent economic crises. Since 2008, I have been writing and talking about Thirdwoldization, or the decadence in the standard of living and quality of life in nations worldwide, and how to best deal with its consequences.

My work is focused on promoting the utilization of our settings - our home, office, community, streets - to perform accessible routines and exercises as preparation for the ramifications of economical and political crises that happen cyclically.

I’m committed to helping common urban dwellers like me to become ready to live as normally, comfortably and safely as possible in a context of volatility, social unrest, disruptions, shortages, crime and violence deriving from unstable systems. All by focusing efforts on time-proven, achievable and sustainable initiatives and activities, rather than fancy and expensive equipment or outlandish, unattainable skills.

Since 2020, I have been a weekly contributor of The Organic Prepper, home to some highly committed and respected writers such as Selco Begovic, Toby Cowern, Jose from Venezuela, Daisy Luther, Aden Tate, and many others. I also write for Brian Duff’s Mind4Survival and other foreign and local outlets. You will find a wealth of real-life, practical, no-nonsense prepping and survival knowledge in these places.

Currently, I’m finishing my third book “HOME PREPAREDNESS: Domestic Routines And Strategies For Crises and Emergencies” (TBR 31st March 2023), a training guide for an adequate shelter-in-place or a life in austere times. It’s based around my own experience growing during the 1970’s and 80s and the lifestyle of families and individuals living in underprivileged places.

Along with STREET SURVIVALISM (2018) and the forthcoming BUG OUT DRY RUNS: Urban Evasion Exercise Guide (due September 2023), it will complete my Crisis Preparedness Trilogy, a full real-world guide for anyone looking to improve his or her family’s situation during volatile and hard periods.

You can reach me at ommarfabian@gmail.com. Thanks for reading and stay safe out there.

The author is up there with Selco Begovic in calling out the BS that clogs up a lot of preparedness work, and explains just what it's like when you have absolutely nothing but the bare minimum. Nothing fancy, no expensive gear, some tips and tricks that don't get mentioned anywhere else.

I would have liked two additions. One would be additional tips for a woman having to live in the streets. Another would be for tips if you're having to go through this situation with children. Both of these are topics that get very little attention in prepper literature.

I am angry that I spent money on this book. It opens with random observations about the current SC2 pandemic. I defy anyone to find anything "practical" or of any use in the first 30 pages of this book. This is some of the most painful reading I have ever encountered. Do yourself a big favor. Skip this book and this author and spend your money on Selco Begovi's books. There are many practical observations in Selco's books. This is junk, survival-porn.

This is a departure from the usual "put these 50 things in your BOB" book (I'm currently writing one of those). The focus of this book is on practical steps to become a little less dependent on modern comforts and very much more aware of the neighborhood and city around you.

I'm not homeless but as someone without a car who uses public transit exclusively and therefore gets an up-close view of homelessness in my city, Mr. Omarr is correct about the attitudes, hazards and the good points of knowing how to get by if you're faced with the loss of services we all know will happen sometimes. He challenges readers to get out and actually experience this difference in lifestyle before you need it. Even if you read the book and never leave your chair, you will gain something from it.

English is evidently not the author's first language and there are some grammar and spelling differences (rather on par with Selco for those of you who've read his work). I was able to easily understand the meaning and it didn't detract much.

The economy is taking a hit in my town and I see a lot of people using public transportation and getting into areas of town they haven't experienced before. I wish I could hand them a copy of this book and tell them to wise up before they get hurt. There's a whole different subculture of people here who live on the street and have still kept up their morals, decency and kindness. There are also people who would shank you as entertainment. This book will offer a way for you to somewhat safely learn to cope with an environment different than most people's everyday life.
