The "caveat emptor" from the title comes in this manner; namely that the main disagreement I have with the book itself was its neutrality, such as the usage of politically correct/gender neutral versions of Scripture when quotations were used. If you checked multiple translations, it seemed a consistent choice that where there was a translation that used a gender neutral version of a verse, ("them" instead of "him, for example) that was the one chosen. (In some cases it was the New International Version translation, in others it might be the New Living Translation.) That, to me, speaks of a deliberate choice as opposed to it being because of only one specific source being used.
The prayers offered at the end of each lesson, as well, seemed to go out of their way to deliberately avoid using the terms "God" or making reference to Christ. Those two things, to me, were distasteful, and appeared to be pandering to political correctness, which lessened my enjoyment of the book greatly; more so for a book coming at things ostensibly from a Godly or Christian perspective.
All that being said, and as with all things, I encourage anyone who does this type of work (which I do, personally) to read all the reviews, go into it informed and with an open mind, and make your own decision. For myself, I was able to obtain a copy of one of the original "Strength for Service to God and Country," circa 1942, and have enjoyed that much more thoroughly. Your mileage, as the saying goes, may vary.
Thanks for reading the review, and thank you to all my fellow servants in the community, in whatever it is you may do!
