Those just beginning relaxation techniques will find this tape an excellent audio introduction to methods of guided meditation. Allen's voice blends with background music to provide an instructional guided relaxation routine, including creative meditation directions. -- Midwest Book Review --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
Over soothing background music the author gently leads the listener through a series of meditations that progressively relax the body head to toe. The mental images, largely focusing on positively uniting mind and body, are satisfying affirmations that seem to touch the inner doubts and worries that occur when people stay centered in their intellects. You get where you want to go in life by holding those images in your head first--completely, intensely, and with a calm and relaxed mental state. What comes after that is as automatic as riding a bicycle, says Marc Allen, in a narrative style as smooth and integrated as this way of thinking about change. You will find Marc Allen's voice either extremely soothing or very annoying, so please find a version to preview first. He speaks in a very low, personal way that I find soothing and so do most I have recommended it to. Only 1 person did not like it.
Side 1 puts you in a meditative state and uses progressive relaxation to get you completely relaxed. I like this version because it is not one of those "tense your leg and let it go", which I find more anxiety provoking than relaxing. He guides you to simply relax each muscle group without tensing first.. Then he does some healing/purifying imagery, ending with a few minutes of the haunting, lovely and soothing background music that plays throughout.
Side 2 puts you "under" more quickly and guides you through some affirmations. Personally, I do not use this side, but side one is worth the price and more.
I believe Shakti Gawain wrote the script and that Marc Allen is just the reader, so if you want more of the same I would try looking her up.
Simple, easy to follow and effective. Highly recommended.
