A lot of stress books I've read helped me deal with stress just so I could face the stress again. It was nice to be able to relax a little, but then I would go back to my same stressed-out life.
This author is all about getting rid of the stress, not just dealing with it.
It was like having a conversation with someone - she shared personal details about her life and is still learning - different from the phd "my life is perfect" types that usually write self-help books. She gives a lot of different real-world suggestions.
And I like the holistic approach. Most people treat stress as a mental issue completely disconnected from the rest of the body. Traditionally, when you think about stress impacting health, you only think ulcers or heart attacks. Now I'm a little worried about what I've been doing to my body just dealing with stress all these years.
Her approach is holistic. Yes vitamins, certain minerals, allergies, food intolerances can all affect stress levels. Yes, yoga, deep breathing, meditation can create positive results. But Ms Matthews intent on releasing the underlying triggers to her stress, delves deeper. And we are the beneficiaries.
Can her underlying triggers include a need to be perfect or to be the sturdy oak her family relies on? Does she have an inability to say "no" and does she take on more stress that she can bear?
Ms. Matthews is an excellent writer and weaves her personal story into solid suggestions for stress relief. Her approach to her own issues is nothing short of heroic and anyone who reads this book (and I strongly feel that everyone in our stress-filled world SHOULD read this book) will be the better for it.
Fist off, I don't think many individuals take the time to realize how stressed they really are and how that stress affects their overall health. Janet does an excellent job of explaining and understanding stress, the signs to watch out for, what can be causing you to be so stressed, How stress affects your Immune system and so much more...
Your Immune system is ever so important as it can lead to a host of problems if it's not running at it's optimal peak performance.
Janet doesn't leave you hanging though. She then goes on to cover how to alleviate your stress which can help increase the performance of your Immune system. Janet covers how to change your outlook on life and simply be happy. Simple changes in ones life can go far to alleviate stress and helping your body perform in a more optimal way.
You should definitely check out this book if you want to reduce your stress and build a happier, healthier body for 2013.
