First, after discussing how "stress" contributes to or even causes a wide variety of maladies he offers a unique and MULTI DIMENSIONAL method of reducing stress. It involves using a MIRROR to gain the benefits of BIO FEEDBACK which has been shown to reduce stress/anxiety. Bio Feedback sessions using computerized equipment can be quite expensive,I can personally attest to that. By using a MIRROR to get feedback regarding decreases in muscle contraction/tension people will experience relaxation and reduction of anxiety. A central premise of the book is that a person cannot be anxious if their muscles are RELAXED. The mirror biofeedback technique facilitates the reduction of muscle tension and thus anxiety.
Second. Dr. Grossan COMBINES his Mirror Bio Feedback Technique with other proven and efficacious stress reduction/disease - alleviating methods such as: guided visualization, affirmations and measured breathing. Some individuals get better results from one method, others from another OR a COMBINATION of methods.
Third. Throughout the book there are EXERCISES designed to have the reader RELAX and alleviate the symptoms and sometimes even the CAUSES of a WIDE RANGE OF CONDITIONS from hypertension to TMJ. This is very important since just READING about the relaxation techniques is NOT enough...they must be practiced REPEATEDLY in order to overcome anxiety and tension which have become "second nature" to many people. Neural pathways need to be changed (and they CAN be according to the latest research).
Fourth. Dr. Grossan discusses "case histories" of patients that he has seen who have used the relaxation/anxiety reduction techniques that he advocates. They came to him suffering from a diverse number of health conditions.
Fifth. The book is written in a READER FRIENDLY manner yet covers much information and provides many helpful suggestions, that, if followed, will garner excellent results.
I highly recommend this book to those who desire to reduce their levels of anxiety and the symptoms and in certain cases causes of many maladies.
