one minor tweak to perfection.

these are pretty good shoe stretchers with one minor tweak the plastic washer (in the picture I attached) replace it with a metal one that has a bigger outer diameter that will prevent the crappy plastic one getting all jammed up in the hole while trying to stretch your shoes you will have to take the side nut off to replace the plastic washer but it wasn't too hard. All in all these could be made better with metal parts but after replacing the washer these worked pretty great especially for the price.

These shoe stretchers are a bit of a hassle. I stretched one pair of high heels and the plastic washer bent and cracked. It appears the washer is too small and not durable enough to carry the tension of the stretcher itself. After 1 use you'll most likely need to replace the broken plastic washer for a larger metal one that can easily handle the job. The washer, sleeve, crank knob and stretching buttons are all made of plastic. All in all, as with most things, you get what you pay for. However, with a little luck, the right replacement pieces and a lot of aggravation you can get them working well enough. It's up to you to decide if you're willing to invest in all that OR invest in a better made stretcher.

First time I tried them they seemed to do fine. The shoes needed more stretching after all and I attached the round bits and reinserted. At that point on one of the stretchers the front 'cone' bit that helps separate the two halves as you crank it broke off and I didn't realize it until I removed them again. So now I have one that works - so far. When will it break, too?

I was trying to break in Shoes From Hell, in one night, after nearly giving up on them. They were too tight in spots that seemed impossible to fix, but this (combined with a spray to help soften the material) worked beautifully. It's much stronger than the old fashioned tricks I'd been trying. Bags of water frozen overnight, rolled up socks, soaking them in water, wearing them - nothing worked as well or as quickly as this. Got this via Same Day Delivery and was able to wear the shoes the next day.

The only suggestion is to make them a little more straightforward to use. Took a bit of wrangling to figure them out, since I've never owned one of these before. I'm still not entirely sure if I used the small add-on buttons correctly, but they're a nice touch to customize the fit. Also a tiny bit of a wood residue left in my shoes. Easy enough to wipe off.

Plastic and wood tear themselves apart. The plastic pegs broke. I opted to purchase "real" stretcher from my Russian "Shoe Maker" here in NYC. They are a sturdier wood with 1 metal pawn and 1 cost me $25.00. Yep. My shoe repairman cannot make shoes here in US because you need a license to do so, but he knows what he does is art and you better not rush him. HE "will call you" when your shoes are ready for pickup. I ain't complaining.

I do recommend these; with a couple of negatives.
I did not find a more durable looking pair in my size.
I adjusted and placed them overnight in a pair of new shoes that needed to be "broken in". The brief instructions warn you not to "overstretch", so even though other reviewers had left the stretchers in for as many as two days - I made sure to check my shoes after 12 hours. I am glad I did - the shoes are comfortably wearable today.
( A shoe heel is stretched by the bulb like shape of the back end of the stretcher. You can adjust it with the height and the length you choose. It makes sense when you are putting it all together!)
The little buttons you can add to create extra room for bunions etc - are poorly thought out, I used them - but they do not make much sense and do not fit into the holes they are supposed to attach into.
The stretchers themselves look rough, unfinished and flimsy. But they worked well - at least for this first time.
If they break - I will replace them with a better made, undoubtably more expensive pair.

Just what I needed!

I have trouble fitting into dress pumps as my toe area is not at all narrow but my heels are very thin and tiny. My solution? Buy pumps a half size smaller so they stay on my feet, and use the shoe stretcher for the toe area. It really worked. I liked how it let me stretch my shoes for my wide toes, and has these black inserts to customize the areas that need more stretching. The product is well made and I can finally wear pumps and stilettos!

I really like these shoe stretchers. I wear a 7.5/8 and it fits perfectly. I will say, one of them required a bit of elbow grease to open... and I could barely do it. I had my husband stretch it and afterwards, I can easily do it myself. The pressure relief plugs that come with these are easy to use and can be positioned in the exact spots I need them. I would highly recommend this product! I read through a bunch of reviews and finally bought these. I do not regret this decision!

these stretchers were too small to even begin to stretch a size 9 ladies shoe.
they also broke.
and they didn't come with the inserts or any holes in which to put the inserts.
too small and cheaply made.
had to wedge things in between the stretcher and the shoe to get any stretch at all!
completely useless.
