James Harman blows hot harp and his band cooks like crazy on this live CD. Good quality recording of live set captures the energy and power of JH & company's timeless blues.

The incarnation of the James Harman Band featured here has to be one of the best blues bands ever assembled, and they're smoking hot on this live cd. Was there ever a more potent guitar duo than that of Kid Ramos and Hollywood Fats? If you've never heard Fats (Michael Mann) before, check this out and you'll wonder why he's not at or near the top of every "greatest guitarists" list. He was an incredible talent; what a shame he left us so early. James Harman is in top form here as well, both as a vocalist and harp player. Listening to Harman blow harp, you'll understand why Lester Butler idolized him. If you're a fan of electric blues with a West Cost feel, it doesn't get much better than this. The crowd noise is a bit annoying and phony sounding at times, and the track listing's times bear little or no resemblance to the actual times, but these are minor gripes. This is a superb live recording of a truly great blues band. This is a very hard cd to find these days, and available copies can be very expensive, but if you can find it, get it. You won't be disappointed.

Years ago, Iwalked into a local club to listen to this band. Never heard them before. Afterwards. I thought they were as exciting as any blues band I'd ever heard. And that night, he'd only one guitarist with him. I immediately picked up this tape (in those days, it was either cassette or LP). Much to my pleasure, he had two great guitarists with him, plus a fine bass and drum section, probably the same ones that I'd heard before. This band was not only more exciting than the one I'd heard, but tighter as well. And then there were those excellent vocals and harmonica playing. Imagine my pleasure at seeing this out on CD, with extra cuts besides. I eagerly await even more, if possible.

James Harman doesn't get much better than this. A nice live recording (the best way to see and hear the man) featuring not just James Harman, but Kid Ramos and (the late) Hollywood Fats! The band cooks throughout and everyone turns in a banner performance. I'm a bit jaded as James Harman is a favorite of mine, but this is about as good as live "west coast" blues gets. Do yourself a favor and get this CD!

I told a coworker what I loved in a live album. A talented, inspired band, no dead weight on the stage and a small, appreciative audience. His recommendation, this disc, delivers in every way. This has become a staple in my station wagons juke box, right along with "Muddy Waters Live at Mister Kelley's", Duke Robillard's "Stretchin' Out" and Junior Brown's "Austin Experience."

Regardless or genre, if you love live recordings, this one will satisfy.
