it disappointed. Adverbs

I was drawn to Strife of the Mighty by the promise of epic story telling; it disappointed. Adverbs, many, many adverbs, slayed a the well written style as they attempted to add unneeded color. Vague descriptions stole the promised joy. Two examples : "there came a great noise" what was the sound? a rumbling? a crashing? a banging? "a woman of fine build" what is fine? slender? busty? ample? what kind of fine?
I did respect the amount of time it took the other to detail the pronunciations, but I wish he had detailed the story.

An excellent high fantasy tale

What struck me first as I began this book, was the precise language usage. It is not your typical reading level we've become accustomed to and cannot be easily skimmed. Each word was obviously chosen carefully to carry the weight of the story. It reveals a heavy influence of Tolkien and not in a bad way by any means. There are poems and songs scattered throughout the book, perfectly normal in a tale like this, and for once I didn't skim or skip them. They were exceedingly well written and each fit seamlessly with the narrative.

Mr. Bailey handles the travel across an entire land fairly well. He uses the time to give necessary history to the reader in the form of stories told by Brandegan to his traveling companions. While Brandegan is obviously a man used to quests and moving people along, Allon and Merch are nothing more than simple people. However, they show that even the quietest and most easy going can step up when the need arises. With well-written moments of tension, the book moves along with a purposeful step.

If I was to nitpick something, it would be the alternating use of the character names. By that, I mean at one time he would refer to the character as Allon and the next he would call him Mr. Bracken. However, that is me really digging for something to point out. I was swept away by the tale. I don't ever recall being pulled out of the narrative by any errors. It's a very well done book.

This story is a true high fantasy. It's difficult to find ones that have been done well in the indie world. However, Mr. Bailey has done just that. Even though it comes in at 418 pages, I was sad to see the story come to an end. I would recommend it to any fan of Tolkien, Sanderson, and any other high fantasy author you care to name. I personally will be looking forward to the second book in this series.

Adventure with giants

This was my first time reading anything by Julius Bailey but I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent story. Mr.Bailey has given us a story that will suck you in and keep you there from start to finish and then will leave you wanting more from this author. This fantasy of dark creatures and magical kingdoms leads us on a journey of danger ,love tragedy and battles that top off everything else,and the hero or heroes that come with it. The characters were so well written and the way they were developed make's you fell like you were they along side them ,you felt they love ,and it still we are traveling with them .The way the author has written a mixer of songs and poems really makes this story little like Beowulf and that's good thing I enjoyed them both. In the land of Vrandelin ,Brandegen is trying to warn all the villagers of Vararel danger and no one believes him ,soon they are attacked by .But on his way to the capital city ,Darfandor, Brandgenan and Merch are soon met by some danger and adventures with every turn they take. But the only thing that Allon Bracken really wants is to be united with his wife. It was a fast pace with some exciting twists with plenty of adventures. I could tell you more about this amazing entertaining story ,but that would spoil the story for you. I highly recommend that you read this story ,you won't be disappointed.

If Paper Towns can get a movie, this book highly deserves one or even more. A far far land where fantastic and magical creatures and energies exist, lay a small village called Vararel. One day, a warrior came and warned the villagers of the imminent danger that will approach the village but the people didn’t believe him and Giants start their attacks. Now all destroyed and had nothing left, everybody has to take refugee in the Capital. We follow Allon, Merch and Brandegan into this journey to the capital of Darfandor.

It was an amazing read! Extremely well-written, the author brings out the best aspects of the fantasy genre from big battles, Giants, Beasts to wizards, you will find a little sprinkle of love and tragedy. I loved Merch’s humour haha and I always think that once you can connect with characters, you will never be able to put down a book as you feel yourself emerged in their universe. That’s where Strife of Mighty succeeded. I went to battle with them, fell in love with them and fight with them. The author included tales and songs which was vey entertaining.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a pure fantasy story with a solid storyline !
