No noticeable audio quality difference (regardless of claims in description): -1 star
No EQ as description indicates: -1 star
Since they fail to list any details about the cable here they are:
Total length: 51"
Distance from headphones (when inserted) to in-line remote: 5 1/8"
The cable itself works fine, I don't think there is any discernible audio quality difference vs bluetooth based on initial testing. I bought the cable in hopes of better audio quality and to have something more reliable than Bluetooth in my RF polluted office. The volume level goes higher with bluetooth when compared to this cable. The quality of the assembly is fine, the cable has decent stress relief at both plugs, but none at the in-line components (DAC or the in-line controls). The in-line controls are simple and functional. The first time you plug it in iOS will prompt you to install their app, and more on that below.
I am using this on an iPhone 7 with iOS 10.2, the latest available the day I received the item.
The app they advertise should be avoided entirely, it just doesn't do anything useful at all and worse it makes your phone unstable.
Their own description states: "This strikeLINE cable comes with a free music player app. The app gives you all the same features the iPhone music app offers Plus more. With this free app, you can Manually adjust your EQ Settings to get that quality that best fits your taste." This seems to suggest that the app can manage EQ settings, it doesn't...in fact the app doesn't even work as a music player. The app doesn't give the ability to browse or find music or do anything other than play some list of songs that it selects...and only the song titles are displayed with no other detail. In my case I don't even know what songs it is listing, it is a mashup of a few songs and some podcasts but the app fails to display enough info to use it as a music player at all.
The EQ settings they claim to offer are some fixed EQ types such as "Flat", "Jazz", "Voice", "Pop", "Rock"...but they seem to make no discernible difference. I would say that the app does absolutely nothing as it can't even tell you the "accessory version", which seems to indicate it fails to even communicate with the device it is supposed to manage.
This app is probably the absolutely worst app I have ever used, and I have used a lot of iOS apps...in fact my phone has 490+ apps installed on it. The UI design of this app is a failure, the functionality is a failure, so please please do not buy this cable if you expect to use the "free music player app" to do anything with the device.
Overall I'm very pleased with the product, but I still have a few negative points: First, I think it's a little expensive and for this price they could've used some better materials. Even though the cable feels sturdy, it could have been thicker and the plastic black "box" on the cable which I believe houses the D/A converter feels cheap. My other begative point is the app that is advertised on the packaging to use with the product, "Scosche Player". As an alternative player app instead of the built in music app it doesn't seem to have any plus at all and it takes a very long time to load my music library. I would suggest sticking with the standard "Music" app or using the "Neutron Player" app as an alternative with many extra features. The reason I downloaded the Scosche app was because the packaging promised advanced options for the cable in it as well as firmware updates, unfortunately I couldn't find neither of those.
I can definitely recommend the cable for everyone using Bose noise-cancelling headphones and the iPhone 7, with the Scosche cable they make a great team.
I hope that the cable will be sold internationally in the near future. I ordered from Germany and I couldn't find them being sold anywhere in Europe, also not on the German Amazon, so I had to order from the US. The order arrived in Germany very quickly and I did not have to worry about customs but it got stuck in Germany afterwards. The issue got resolved when I contaced Amazon support, thanks again for helping me quickly and professionally.
My second complain is about the length. It is than the original 2.5 -> 3.5 Bose cable.
As to the sound quality, I did not notice a major difference between 3.5 and Apple adapter and directly to Lightning. Decided to measure the frequency response at work, and Surprise! the difference was less than 75Hz. primarily at the higher end (15.5Khz-16Khz). So for me it was just a matter of convenience.
