One of the seminal scores of the 1980s, "Stripes" was a huge hit and featured a score by one of film music's greatest legends, yet still there was no soundtrack release. Elmer Bernstein's score for "Stripes" is a classic. For it he composed a march that was every bit as memorable as the one he wrote for "The Great Escape." Once again, Bernstein played the comedy straight and what resulted is a tremendously exciting action score. It comes from a particularly exciting time in Bernstein's career. 1981 also included the composer's utterly magnificent score for "Heavy Metal."

Unlike other slap-it-together soundtracks albums for non-blockbuster movies, usually limited to 12 tracks, this CD, as well as its MP3 download, have 20 tracks. The 20th track is actually the Elmer Bernstein music tailored for the movie's coming attractions. Essentially you have the entire film soundtrack.
This is a great CD to listen to while on a long drive. The main theme sticks with you long after you shut off the stereo.
