Beckett is everything I love in an alpha hero. He is dominant in the bedroom, but he is caring and sweet in all other aspects of his relationship with his woman. He listens attentively to verbal and nonverbal cues of Cassie, and he works hard to make her life better. Seeing him with her daughter CiCi is another reasons the reader will fall in love with him, and it will cause serious ovary explosions. I am going to be honest and say his interactions with the heroine’s daughter are some of my favorite parts of the book. These tiny scenes make me love him even more. Cassie is a single mother that is doing a job she hates in order to provide for her child. Readers will love this heroine because she sacrifices for her child’s happiness, and she isn’t bitter or angry about it. She does have fears that hold her back, and the reader will want to strangle her due to all the back and forth that goes on in her mind but it is understandable. She has been damaged pretty bad in the past, and so what motivates her as a character makes her behavior understandable. Her daughter, CiCi, becomes this little ray of sunshine in the book. She adds some comic relief and breaks some tense moments between Beck and Cassie, but Emma Hart uses her character to bring them together and help the reader fall in love with the two main characters not only individually but also as a couple.
I enjoyed the plot and pacing of the story. The progression of the story moves quickly, but Emma Hart pulls it off, because, although it is a short time span, there are days that they literally spend all day together. On top of that, they actually interact within one another versus just having sex everywhere and all the time (don’t worry, it is there and it is HOT), and they have real conversations. This allows the reader to almost forget about the short time span of the book, and she makes their development as a couple believable.
Emma Hart delivers once again with Stripped Down with likable characters, a fun and engaging plot, and hot and steamy moments. So if you are looking for a quick and dirty read, then this book is what you are looking for!
She got some devastating news regarding her father's health that through her off balance. Cassie worked for Beckett Cruz, the man was sexy as sin and her boss but it didn't stop her for ogling him like all the other girls did. Cassie was off her game and Beck saw it, he wanted to make sure that everything was okay with her.
Beckett Cruz, ex-stripper and West Rykman's best friend/business partner. We had the pleasure of meeting the naughty Beck in STRIPPED BARE (West's book). The things that came out of that man's mouth could turned even a saint into a sinner.
When he called Cassie into his office, Beck didn't expect to wake the next morning with married to the sexy woman he had wanted to get to know better.
Both Beck and Cassie knew they made a mutual mistake, one they wanted to rectify by getting an annulment. As they spend more time together along with Ciara, they opened their hearts to each other in ways they never did before.
Cassie was running scared so she tried pushing Beck away but what she didn't know was that Beck wasn't one to take no for an answer. He would do anything to ease her fears.
I enjoyed Mia being there for Cassie, their friendship grew beautifully. As well as the relationship between West and Cassie, it was a pleasure seeing those close to Beck getting along fine. Even though there were a few hiccups at first.
STRIPPED DOWN was fast paced, well written, entertaining and combustible. Emma Hart knows how to keep you glued to your seat, she also knows how to make your heart race. This book is a must read. Loved it from the beginning til the end.
The author did a nice job of making me feel for Cassie throughout the story: sadness at how Cassie feels degraded by her job and the way she she's been treated by too many of the men in her life; her pain at the thought of losing her father; the conflict of her fear of the potential pain of letting Beckett into her life against her fear of losing what he offers.
I love the way Beckett tries to take care of Cassie, from being concerned about her being unhappy in her job, to driving her to pick up her daughter from school to stocking her fridge with groceries. While at times he's more like a kid than a grownup, it's in a way that makes me laugh (instead of a throw-my-kindle-across-the-room kind of way), and he's all man when and where it counts. I did feel we were missing a little depth in his character though, and would have liked a little more background information on him.
The plot is relatively straightforward with a few minor twists and the pacing good. I enjoyed the secondary characters, particularly Cassie's daughter, Ciara, and revisiting West and Mia from the first book in the series (note that this story works well as a standalone). A ton of laughter, a bit of angst plus a little sweet, mixed in with some hot and dirty chemistry equals a 4.5 to 5 star read for me.
