I was in need of a good cry and I just so happened to have one-clicked this book on release day and the blurb convinced me this would do the trick.
When I first started reading I thought that Kane was going to be the typical alpha male who always got what he wanted and more. I was so wrong. Kane was the perfect amount of alpha with a giant heart and determination that knows no bounds. He wasn't perfect though. He definitely made some stupid decisions that could have prevented a little bit of pain for Kenzie, but at least the owned up to them and did his best to try to right them. He definitely gave his whole heart to Kenzie and was committed to making her see that he wasn't going anywhere.
I liked Kenzie but she was a bit insecure and self-deprecating. As you learn more about her past it starts to make more sense and it's easy to feel sorry for her, but hope that she can move past it to see what's right in front of her. I did love that, though she chose to run a lot, when Kane chased after her she stuck around to talk to him and was, at times, even more understanding than I wanted her to be.
What really struck me hard with this story was Kenzie's relationship with her sister. This is where the crying came in. It was heartbreaking to read but it was also a bit inspiring. I love how positive Tessa was. Her sense of humor through everything was a great addition to the story and was a great coping mechanism that lightened to mood of the situation.
This wasn't an angst filled story. There was enough conflict and sadness that let me have a decent cry, but there was plenty of sweet and sexy to keep me from going over the edge. This book was exactly what I needed today.
I believed it would be simple. Girl meets guy, they meet, they date, they fall in love. It was so much more than that.
This author packed this book up with so much emotion. I was happy, I was sad, I was angry, I was hurt, I cried, I laughed, I lived!
You know that quote, "A reader lives a thousand lives"? This proved that quote right.
This was so much more than the love of two individual. It was so much more than Kane and Kenzie. It was about family, about what REAL LOVE is about.
There's parts of the story where I really wanted to sock the characters but I loved them. The author developed each of her characters, the main and supporting ones, so well.
This was my first book by Prescott Lane but it sure as heck won't be my last.
