From the Author
Then out of the blue ,on Monday 26th of March 2012, I had a massive hemorrhagic stroke which left me unable to move or talk lying in a hospital bed for the first two months ....Doctors, nurses ,and my family did everything necessary and waited patiently .when physio therapy at last started it was impossible to judge what we would to achieve..my milestone were being able to count to seven and taking my first steps.....it was anybody's guess to what extent my ability to function would be regained..with the help of the hospital staff and my own determination..I surprised everyone and walked perfectly...and I speak very well ...the condition of my mind was helped greatly by my poetry...as I came to deal with multiple issues I found that by writing them down I could objectify the emotions or problems and distance create a healthy relationship...I came to realise that cutting somethings from your life is amputation you have to face your demons and seek closure...that's what my poetry did for me it helped reboot my brain...it helped me deal with my emotions place them into context ..so I set myself a goal I would begin my journey to health ..unfortunately the were other bumps along the way ..three more ischemic stroke and ,one small bleed within sixteen months of the first ....all well that ends well I haven't had another issue of stroke or epilepsy within 2 years ...I have regained almost all of my functions..just my right hand need some work still but that coming along I have started to write with it I have full feeling..I feel that my poetry has chronicled what I have been through given me closure..helped me say thank you ...I think I must have been born under a lucky star ...lol

About the authors
I had lived my life as a fearless, full of energy, optimistic person, with lots of initiative, many times in excess, as I had been told perhaps a bit careless.Bold to the point of ignoring danger.Well I was born a Sagittarius and in the Chinese zodiac a horse, for those who believe in the stars or blame the stars for their fortune . I do not really if I had a hobby . Judging from what I did with my free time ,l was a bookworm!Reading ,reading, reading.

Then, like lightening,on the evening of 26 March 2012 a massive haemorrhagic stroke hit me,leaving me unable to speak or move for long. After four months in hospital,to everyone's surprise, with immense courage and effort I was able to speak well and walk. Unexpectedly though, three ischaemic strokes and one haemorrhagic followed ,spaced out to May 2013. Complicated treatment as the two forms of stroke require contrasting medication. Endless effort and persistence rewarded me with perfect walk now. Only a light speech impediment and not fully functioning right hand ?.are the scars now,Why poetry?
Following the stroke I went through a spell of re-learning,like been born again. Feelings were overpowering mind concentration and understanding. Verses were facilitating expression of my feelings. Packing up a poems book and publishing it gave me upmost satisfaction, particularly as the response by stroke victims was so moving. I had been writing verses before and shall continue so;poetry takes the weight off my legs, gives me wings!!!

As a caregiver, I felt like I was given an invitation to something very personal – a first-hand experience of the raw, blunt feelings of a stroke survivor, conveyed to the reader without inhibition or shame.
Through this book, other stroke survivors and their families will learn that it is ok to have fear and frustration, but that there's also hope. You just have to reach out and grab it.
