Lift supports are pressurized cylinders that are used to support hoods, hatches and rear window glass in automotive applications. Lift supports are also used in many non-automotive applications. Each Strongarm lift support is custom engineered, and manufactured beyond industry standards to provide smoother operating, and longer lasting performance. Lift supports should be replaced in pairs to ensure safe, reliable support of your hood, hatch, or liftgate.

How Lift Supports Work?

Gas-charged lift supports are energy storage devices which create energy by compressing gas inside a cylinder. When closed, the energy is stored. When opened, the energy is released to raise hoods, trunks, hatches and hold them safely in an open position.

StrongArm gas-charged lift supports typically store a gas charge of over 1500psi and cannot be compressed by hand. For safe and effective operation, the lift supports must match the specific application.

Easy, Step-by-Step Instructions

Have someone hold the hatch, hood, trunk or rear window open while replacing the lift support. Do not use a prop rod.

Turn off ignition. If old lift support has a window defogger electrical connector, carefully disconnect the fittings.
Before removing old lift supports, examine any hardware provided to determine which components must be reused.
Work on lift supports one at a time and do not remove both lift supports at the same time. Replace one, then remove and replace the second one.
The new lift support must be installed in the same position as the old one which was removed, unless otherwise instructed. Do not nick or scratch chrome rod.
Compare the end connectors of your lift support to the illustrations provided and see additional instructions below.

Things to keep in mind:

Always replace both lift supports when applicable to assure top performance
Carefully inspect all hinges and connecting points and replace if broken, old or fractured
Do not use a prop rod and have someone help you


Removable Ball Connectors If your lift supports come with the ball connectors, remove old lift support by prying the retaining ring, cap lock or the security lock ring. Then press new lift support onto ball stud and properly install retainer.	Eyelet Connector If your lift supports come with the eyelet connector, remove old lift support by unscrewing the mounting bolt or retaining clip. Install new lift support by using mounting bold or removing the retaining clip. Then, remove old lift support by prying the retaining clip off. Install new lift support by pressing against the vehicle mounting stud until the retaining clip snaps into place.	Eyelet Connector with Retaining Clip If your lift supports come with the eyelet connector with retaining clip, remove old lift support by prying the retaining clip off. Then, install new lift support by pressing against the vehicle mounting stud until the retaining clip snaps into place.	Keyhole Slot Connector If your lift supports come with the keyhole slot connector, slide the lift support so the keyhole slot can be lifted off the vehicle mounting stud. Then install the new lift support by sliding the keyhole slot over the vehicle mounting stud.

Works great with Tesla Model 3 trunk retrofit. thinner than OE, but easier to open and close as the trunk lid stay in the middle. Only a draw back is that, I hear some squawk noise when I open the lid all the way up quickly. maybe some oiling issue or I bet there is a solution for it.

I bought these for trunk after watching livingtesla video. now I watched i7-tesla video, he was using these for frunk.
so I moved to frunk but they don't work, hood almost bent. lifes were made in US. some review mentions turkey version have the same issue. at this moment I have no idea what I should use for frunk.

I used one of these struts on my 2018 Tesla Model 3 frunk (front trunk) and it works well. It’s a one person job to replace and all you need is a flat head screwdriver. Now when I pop the frunk, it opens all the way on its own instead of just popping open.

I bought this to replace the struts on my Model 3 frunk. I was disappointed when I saw that they were "Made in Turkey." There are reviews out there indicating this version doesn't work as well, but I decided to give it a try.

The installation was simple and the frunk did auto open, but it required a bit of force to close. More than I'm comfortable with. Also, because it was more difficult to close, the hood seemed like it was bending a bit while closing the frunk. When it was fully closed, it looked like it caused the hood to bulge out a little.

I didn't want to risk it so had to return it. I wish Amazon would let me specify the "Made in USA" version since most people are having the best luck with those.

Like many others, I really wanted my Tesla Model 3 front trunk to auto-pop, because, well - it's cool? And also because... - no that's it. It's cool.

Anyway, on my 2019 Model 3 these were pretty easy to install. I did find that using a very small flat-headed screwdriver made life a lot easier in removing the clips from the existing struts. It took just a minute when I used a really small one, so that's the best advice I can give there.

Coupled with a 11/32 in. x 1-7/8 in spring, I can now close my frunk one-handed without feeling like I'm breaking something. Great stuff.

A couple of things:

1.) I had read a review stating that Made-in-Turkey struts weren't working properly. Mine are made in Turkey, and work just fine, so I'd not worry about that at all.

2.) There's no chance of the frunk popping by itself with these stronger struts. The struts have no bearing on the actual metal latch mechanism that keeps the frunk in place.

After having watched the hubby install the rear hatch struts on both of our Jeeps (I wrote up reviews on his behalf for those parts), I decided to take a shot and install this on myself!

1. The packaging secured the lift well and was easy to remove
2. the instructions were fairly clear, but it was more clear after having looked at the old one still installed.
3. Installation was really simple. The lift mechanism snaps into place in both locations, and I'm upset I didn't replace this sooner. Well, to be honest, I don't use the hood as much as I used the tailgate.

I propped the hood up with piece of wood from the hubby's work shop so that the hood wouldn't come crashing down on my head - see my write-up on the Cherokee sport rear hatch for a laugh! The old one required the use of a screwdriver to pull apart which was explained in the instructions, and the new one went on as easily as I stated in note 3 above.

Update: it has been several months now and the hood stays up firmly. All-in-all, I gave this product 5 stars.

The struts are slightly shorter than stock and there's a bit more pressure needed when closing the frunk, but they work perfectly. The Model 3 is one of the best cars ever created yet it isn't without its shortcomings, luckily the aftermarket world for the Tesla Model 3 is huge and modifications like this are welcome additions to an already great car.
This was an easy 2 minute install, no brainer upgrade.

The only issue I had was the inability to ship it to the west coast, for whatever reason only East coast addresses worked for this order (first time this has ever happened in my 10 years of PRIME use.

Side note: mine say "Made in Turkey" but so far so good.

2 MONTH UPDATE - Knocked off 2 stars:

So one big issue with these are the fact that they usually don't open the frunk all the way on the first go, it usually pops up a few inches then slowly opens it fully. Pretty annoying since I usually open the frunk at most once a day.

Yes.. I thought I really screwed up to have bought one strut instead of two. BUT you need to just replace one side and it works like a charm. Doesn't pop it up too aggressively and make it too difficult to close - like some of the rear trunk ones. Would highly recommend. A total must for Model 3 considering you need open it remotely anyway (no button on the hood).

Make sure you don't buy two!

I put them on the car and they bend the bonnet and the strut mounting brackets. When closed they bow the Frunk bonnet up. I fitted just one of these new struts and it was enough to lift the Frunk up on its own.

The original struts are are rated at 200nm (20kg roughly). I put these Strongarm's on a scale and after 45kg they still didn't compress. Pushing them against the ground I put my entire body weight on them for a second and they didn't compress (70kg+)
These have no useful labelling and I couldn't find a spec online, I could only guess they are 663nm struts.
They are also shorter than the originals.

Don't fit these unless you want to break something. My bad for listening to uneducated you-tubers wanting to sell products.
