Editorial Reviews

2012 release, the third album from the singer/songwriter. Written and recorded with an expansive crew of well-respected Californians including Brett Dennen, Blake Mills and other established L.A.-based musicians, Stronger shows off the careful development of a singular voice. The album's sound, a rootsy brand of all-American pop-rock, recalls classic works by some of the west coast singers Kate's older brothers listened to during long hours at their family's gas station. Artists like Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstadt, and Joni Mitchell along with Tom Petty are cited as heavy influences on this album. Stronger's lived-in Laurel Canyon vibe came together quickly, with Kate and Brett Dennen (her principal collaborator on Stronger) recording 17 songs in a six-day session at Los Angeles' famed Village Recorders.

The album seems a good album. Though for fans expecting this album to be a better stronger album from the first, this is not a pop album. almost feel country in parts. her musicianship is good, though as one of her fans of her first album, my hope for a slight change and not a style change, this isn't it. For someone new coming to Kate, they can evaluate themselves, though if you come from her previous album, this isn't it.

Great Cd, very well recorded, smooth tones, something different from Kate and delightful. If you like her previous works then you will love this album. Excellence job on most of the songs! I recommend it honestly.

We enjoyed Kate's performance on the NPR show "etown". This album is good but stylistically seems to wander, would like to see a bit more focus though Kate's voice is very nice, strong and good for many different styles. Keep trying, we're still fans! Thanks for offering, quick delivery and good price for the CD.

We went to a Matchbox Twenty/Goo Goo Dolls concert in Vegas a couple days ago. Kate Earl was the opening act; her name was familiar but I couldn't place her and I didn't recognize the first song. When she sang "One Woman Army", and I said to my husband, oh this is that song that we'd heard before that reminds me of Natalie Merchant.

I listened to this CD on Rhapsody after the concert - such a different sound in the studio! The concert was VERY loud (so much bass and guitar that very much distracted from her lovely voice) and at times she *screamed*, perhaps to compete? Maybe she had to add all that "noise" because of the crowd there to see GGD/MB20? I don't know.

ANYWAY if you have heard Kate Earl in concert and didn't enjoy it that much (like us), give her CD a try. She has a sweet, beautiful voice, and her songs are very easy to listen to (yet not "easy listening" if you know what I mean). Her songs, and her adorable personality, are well-suited to the singer-songwriter style.

I like the fact that Kate hasn't repeated herself. From piano to pop and now acousticy rock. Nothing groundbreaking here. Just a nice easy listen. Happier than her previous works.
She had help writing her songs with Brett Dennen. I think she deserves to be bigger than she is.

I heard this CD on streaming and it's one of my favorite albums of the year. It's ostensibally a pop album but it has a very different sound than a lot of the radio music that I hear. I'd describe it as jazz or country infused. I'd never heard of this artist before but I really like this CD, I've listened to it end to end several times and I rarely do that.

I heard her for the first time on the Bachelorette TV show and I immediately fell in love with "Loyalty" and "One Woman Army." I love her other songs on this album too, but those are my faves. I get so excited finding new artists.
