Editorial Reviews

Medfield College science major Dexter Riley (Kurt Russell) and his classmates have been working on a new vitamin compound when a lab accident creates a supercharged mix that ends up in Dexter's cereal box! After breakfast the next morning, Dexter is transformed, possessing a superhuman strength that levels lampposts and destroys doorknobs. The powerful formula comes to the attention of the college dean and two rival cereal companies, touching off a hilarious chain of events. Ultimate control of the moneymaking formula rides on a weight lifting match between the pitifully small Medfield team and the superior State challengers. It's a mixture of fun, comedy, and adventure that will have everyone exploding with laughter!|Medfield College science student Dexter Riley eats a bowl of cereal accidentally containing a chemical compound he has been working on. He develops superhuman strength, which he mistakenly attributes to a vitamin formula devised by a fellow student. Two cereal companies compete for ownership of the secret ingredient and back a weight-lifting contest between Medfield and rival State College. Medfield is losing badly when Dexter realizes his compound, not the other student's, is the secret to his strength, and he leads his team to victory.|The movie was Joe Flynn's last on-screen appearance. A Disney regular, he appeared in the films HERBIE THE LOVE BUG, THE COMPUTER WORE TENNIS SHOES, and NOW YOU SEE HIM, NOW YOU DON'T, among others, and was the voice of Mr. Snoops in the 1975 flick THE RESCUERS, released two years after his death.|The Animation Building on the Disney Studio lot in Burbank served as the main building of Medfield College. Location shooting was done in Chinatown, Griffith Park, Echo Park, and the federal penitentiary, all in Los Angeles.

Forgetting the Disney corporate and technical criticism, the movie itself is thoroughly entertaining, good clean fun. It's full of great character actors from the 60's and 70's including a hilarious Joe Flynn. The movie is full of over-the-top cornball fun and thankfully it's devoid of profanity, flatulence jokes and violence found in so many movies geared at kids today. Great for kids and parents who enjoy innocent, G-rated entertainment.

I have been searching for this video and finally got a chance to watch it a few days ago. It was as funny as I remembered it. This movie is definitely dated and might not appeal to some people, but my family loved it. Hope to see it and the other two Medfield movies (The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes and Now You See Him, Now You Don't) on DVD soon.

I saw this movie at the right time-when I was about 10 years old circa 1975. Wacky, silly fare about Kurt Russell as a college kid who comes across a weightlifting formula and the crooks who try to steal it.

Good goofy gags for the tot set, especially the guy whose arms turn to rubber when he tries to lift weights.

Adults will not want to bother with this unless they see it with kids or have nostalgia for seeing in their own childhood. With that said, leave your brains at the door and enjoy.

Like most Disney movies of its generation, this was a wholesome and fun G-rated movie that my whole family enjoyed seeing. I had great memories of watching this movie when it first came out. I really liked seeing my children (ages 7, 5, and 3) enjoy this movie as much as I did when I was their age. This would be a good addition for parents who are collecting wholesome and clean movies for their young children.

I loved this when I was a kid, but I watched it recently and was only mildly amused. The interesting thing was that Kurt Russell really didn't have a lot of screen time. There were about four or five other characters that had a lot more screen time that he did.

These movies rock! Love that I can watch these movies with my kids and not have to cringe or worry that they are going to hear or see something that they shouldn't. Wish there were MORE like this out now made by Disney!

I remember Saturday afternoon matinees in my hometown watching this and pretty much every other fun flick in those days: World's Greatest Athlete, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Herbie the Love Bug, etc. This is a fun one too. I love to see the old 70's fashions, cars, social stereo-types. Dang, good times!
