There are a couple of useful topics in this manual that made it something I wanted to have in the PE exam. It came in useful for designing welds and a bolted connection. Most topics in here aren't all that helpful unfortunately, but in that exam, it was worth the extra information to have one or two useful bits.

Having taken and passed the PE exam, I'm a strong proponent of actually buying the codes NCEES references instead of a book like this. I took a suitcase full of books and this was essentially my book of last resort. All in all, I think I got an answer one of the three times I searched for something. If I had searched this book before the reference manuals or codes I had brought, it might have been more useful. As it was though, I wasn't willing to spend time searching through it when I was fairly familiar with most of the manuals. I have referenced this book a few times in my master's-level course that I'm currently taken and it's been a decent reference, so there is value here.
All in all, this book's utility is going to depend on your test-taking strategy. Personally, I would suggest spending the $100 you'd spend on this book towards the reference manuals first and then maybe buy a book like this if you want a little extra insurance.

Not a comprehensive source for the afternoon structural depth portion of the PE exam. I took this to the exam but did not use it. Save your money.

Don't buy this book. I bought it to help with the PE exam Civil - Structural depth and spent a considerable amount of time studying from it. I did not open it once on the exam and the topics in this book are not representative of the exam problems. Don't waste your time and money, find a different way to study for the afternoon portion of the exam.

I started studying for the exam little late, but this book helped me to get through it effectively. I also hesitated buying it since I saw reviews saying it's not extensive and complete. However, in order to pass the exam, you don't need to review every corner of the list. Make sure you get the principle problems accurately and you will be OK. This book is thin compare with CERM or SERM for sure, but at the same time it's not as painful as reading CERM and SERM. I studied everything in the book thoroughly and find the exam not so difficult to pass. Definitely great help for the exam!
