I first heard a couple of cuts off of this CD when I was in Navy bootcamp in San Diego, CA I was just barely aware of Elvin at this time. I later saw him live at Orange County fair around 1980. His music reminds me of a nice country drive in an old pickup truck, with a fishin' pole and a six-pack in the cooler. I've always been a fan and will continue to be.

Fooled Around and Fell in Love is melodically for me one of the best pop songs ever. I didn't know much of anything about Elvin Bishop other than that one song. So, I was surprised to hear so much other good material on the album. It really is great stuff whether Elvin's struttin' or not.

I really ordered this cd because of one song: Fooled Around and Fell in Love. Turns out Elvin Bishop didn't even sing it, one of his band members did. The other songs on the cd are okay, I guess, but I didn't pay much attention to them.

Before he took over as lead singer for Jefferson Starship, Mickey Thomas did the same for Elvin Bishop. "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" is a classic example of Mickey's incredible vocal ability. This recording brings back memories of the golden age of multi-track analog recording; 1974 to 1981.

I was 16 when I first heard this record. My friend taped me about 4 songs of his dad's original LP and we got in the car, he put it in. I was pretty much blown away. The Title song "Strutting My Stuff" Would have to be the album's best. Followed Closely by "I Love This Life I Lead". But Elvin Bishop seems more than just about funk music, he seems like the type of guy that would have burned out in the 70's if only anyone was paying attention. It is a shame this album didn't get enough attention because it is quite good. The most recognizable tune on the whole album is "Fooled Around and Fell in Love".

I wore out my vinyl album, which I bought in '75, then recently got the DVD. Either way, can't beat Elvin's first album as some of the best Southern rock you're gonna find - - "Fooled Around..." of course is the classic, but don't miss all the others.... there's not a 'reject' tune in the whole bunch!

Wore this 8-track out in junior high. Don't know if he was a church boy, but Elvin sounds like he learned to play at some smokin' hot white pentecostal church waaaay out in the woods, only with a black choir. Solid blues feel, but this is joyful stuff. Never fails to elevate my mood.
