However, I came across the author's blog on FB and was so moved by her pieces, that reading her book piqued my interest. The first chapter dangled the "hook" that made it impossible to stop reading!
Lynne Scott writes with humor, compassion and with a great deal of insight into the human heart and mind. Her talent for description easily pulls you into the characters' experiences first hand. I was laughing out loud one minute and bawling my head off the next. It was the first book I've ever read that evoked such a degree of emotion.
While this was a fictional story, I took away some very real and applicable lessons; ones that anyone who has ever loved deeply or ever suffered loss would understand. The author, perhaps unknowingly, challenged me to think deeper into what life is...what love is...what family is (however you define family - whether by blood or through the loss of it) It's about unexpected events that bind us so tightly to one another. It's about second chances. It's to remind us that we are here to live life, not exist in it. I am happy to publicly announce that this author has converted me. I now read fiction!
There's only one way to find out.
I enjoyed this book very much, my first from Lynne Scott and look forward to reading more of her works. This is a must have if you have ever served in the US Armed Forces.
