How can you go wrong with this collection? All of the Yes studio albums (from their debut album "Yes" to their somewhat klunky "Big Generator" album. Luckily in the world of Yes, even the worst albums have a few tracks of redeeming quality. The first two albums sound more likr folk rock than prog rock. Songs like "Sweetness" and "Survival" are rather folky anthems, while "Beyond And Before" Seems a little closer to the sounds of Yes, yet to come. The next album "Time And Word" was a slightly better effort, although the debate among fans still continues as to whether or not the album needed orchestral overdubs.Guitarist Peter Banks was opposed to them abd found his way out of the band. The album did feature some strong tracks, like "Astral Traveller", "Sweet Dreams" and "Then". The band was even closer to adopting the sound they'd be most famous for. The next album, "The Yes Album" made them prog rock giants, with the addition of Steve Howe on lead guitar. With only a few exceptions, the shorter songs were gone. Finally the band stretched out for lengthy compositions like "Yours Is No Disgrace", "Starship Trooper" and "Perpetual Change". Their follow up would add Rick Wakeman to the group. "Fragile" was an important breakthrough album, as it took the prog on :The Yes Album" to an even higher level. "Fragule" did boast their big AM radio hit "Roundabout" which pretty much put them on the map in the USA.. The album also offered up classics like "Heart Of The Sunrise", "Long . Distance Runaround" and "The Fish" (Chris Squire's infamous bass guitar solo track, which was even more developed on stage).Read more ›

OKAY. We all know the Music is Golden. This is about the Box and the Sleeves. The box is just like the box for the Blue Öyster Cult set. After that it's all downhill. The album sleeves stink. Yes, they are all reproductions of the original albums. That's it. The sleeves are not study or thick as the BÖC sleeves. The sleeves flop open. The few sleeves that are not of Gate Fold design are too large for the disc. The CDs for Time and A Word; Drama; 90125 and Big Generator just fall out. Nothing holds them secure. As an extra there is a dinky poster. It's about as wide as 2 CDs side by side. THERE IS NO BOOK. BÖC's box had a generous book giving all the data that old fans want to revisit and new fans need to know.
The other frustration is that all the YES bonus tracks are listed ONLY on the discs themselves. The sleeves, since they represent the original albums, lack the bonus information. None of the albums have individual booklets.
One Word about this set: FRAGILE. (I plan to return mine).

This box set contains all of the Atlantic era YES albums. The versions presented here are the same as the last remasters from Rhino in 2003-2004. I skipped those since I had bought these albums three times before (vinyl, the original CD releases and the first batch of remasters). Although I wanted all of the cool bonus tracks included on the new releases I couldn't really justify the expense of buying all of this again. Thankfully, this new set takes care of that problem as it is priced reasonably and includes all 62 bonus tracks!
Much cheaper than buying these separately. The discs are housed in a clam shell style box with beautiful Roger Dean artwork. They each come in a mini-LP style sleeve that faithfully reproduces the original vinyl covers. If the vinyl had a gatefold cover, the minis will have one too, even the triple panel GOING FOR THE ONE gets reproduced here. All of the discs have the original label art printed on them and it all looks very attractive. As far as the remastering goes, I honestly can't tell that much difference from the previous remastering they got. They sound very good. The bonus tracks are a mixed bag, many are not terribly interesting but there are some gems, including some great stuff from the TORMATO sessions. Sound quality on the bonus tracks varies from lousy to excellent.
The set also includes a small poster of the Roger Dean cover art. All in all, this is exactly the box set that I have been waiting for.
Beautifully presented with all the bonus tracks at an affordable price. If you combine this set with the previously released 5 disc set called ESSENTIALLY YES you will have the entire YES studio catalog (with the exception of UNION and FLY FROM HERE) in the nifty mini-LP format. If you've already bought the Rhino remasters in their single versions then you can safely skip this one. I really love it and it was the perfect thing for me.

and little quality control. not only are the non-gatefold sleeves shoddy...cds fall out at will...but mine showed up with missing discs. I will personally not replace this box. great music, though many of the bonus tracks are totally superfluous, but for the price, more care should be taken by the company. the continual flood of box sets and their contents is truly becoming an obvious commercial rip. again, this is not a criticism of the music of yes, just current presentation.
