This set is a bit of a mish-mash of sci-fi, action, adventure and disaster films, which range from just so-so to truly classic. The set is light on special features, though each film is pressed on a separate disc, making for a nice collection.

Battle For The Planet Of The Apes (1973/Color/96 minutes/Widescreen)

Roddy McDowall, Claude Akins, Lew Ayres and John Huston star in the fifth and final installment of the original "Apes" series. Special features are limited to trailers and an interactive web link.

The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951/B&W/92 minutes/Fullscreen)

Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal and Hugh Marlowe star in this absolute classic about an alien visitor who tries to warn Earth of impending doom. Sadly, there are no special features on this disc.

The Neptune Factor (1973/Color/98 minutes/Widescreen)

Ernest Borgnine, Ben Gazzara, Yvette Mimieux and Walter Pidgeon star in this undersea adventure. Somewhat interesting for its diving sequences and underwater photography, this film is ultimately unengaging and no more threatening or exciting than a visit to the local aquarium. Special features include the original score track, an unreleased score track, a vintage "behind the scenes" featurette, trailers and still galleries.

The Poseidon Adventure (1972/Color/117 minutes/Widescreen)

Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Red Buttons, Shelley Winters and Roddy McDowall star in this disaster at sea classic. Special features include two commentary tracks and the interactive "Follow the Escape" mode.

I love these 4-film collections from fox. It's only my second, but i'm going to buy quite a few more from this series. They retail for $18 here which is not bad, but if you walk into your local target you can find these for $10. Either way that's not a bad price, depending on how many movies you enjoy out of the four of course.

I bought this set just for Battle for the Planet of the Apes(enjoyed all the 70's ape films), but liked the fact i would get Day The Earth Stood Still and Poseiden Adventure as well, as both are considered classics within their respective genres(i've never seen or heard of Neptune Factor till i bought this though). Best of all, not all the discs are the basic editions. Some have cool extras. Quick rundown:

* Battle for the Planet of the Apes: widescreen, trailers, weblinks.
* Day the Earth Stood Still: basic version, no extras.
* Poseidon Adventure: widescreen, 2 commentaries including a fun one with 3 of the actresses, and "Follow the Escape" interactive feature.
* Neptune Factor: widescreen, 2 isolated score tracks, tv featurette, galleries, and trailers.

Ok, in defense of the two 'lesser' films on here...Battle is looked down upon by critics and some fans, but i enjoyed this last entry in the original 5-film series. It looks like a made-for-tv film at times, but i think it's very enjoyable especially with the final action sequence. Battle and Conquest are my 2 favorites after the original of course.

There are some hilarious reviews for Neptune Factor on amazon, but i kinda liked this admittedly goofy film. It takes itself way too seriously and takes forever to get going, but once Ben Gazzara shows up, i was able to stay focused.

Got this video mostly for the Day the Earth Stood Still ( a wonderful classic) and the Poseidon story. The other two movies are not much. The Neptune Factor was especially bad. All the special effect consisted of shots into a tropical fish tank - trying to convince us that the tropical fish were huge oversized monsters. The movie was stretched out with such scenes - almost like they needed to fill up some time. The Battle for the Planet of the Apes, was probably the worst of the ape series - uninspired, minimal special effects and scene development. Couldn't even waste my time to finish viewing. Bring me back the Charleston Heston version.
