Makes touchscreens more accessible for folks with disabilities

I bought this stylus for my father who has essential tremors. He got his first smart phone this week (I know...) and was extremely frustrated by the touchscreen. His tremors manifest mostly in his hands, and he has difficulty performing fine motor tasks such as writing his name, holding utensils, or tying his shoes. Touchscreens present a new obstacle for him as he cannot manage a light “tap” motion on the screen with any kind of accuracy. This stylus helps TREMENDOUSLY. He can tap and swipe easily, and it’s large size is easy for him to hold despite his difficulty holding standard-sized writing implements. I highly recommend this stylus for anyone that has a disability that manifests in their hands as shaking or lack of control (tremors, some palsies, arthritis, etc). I’m so happy to have found this; it’s really improving the quality of my dad’s life.

I bought one of these when they first came out (but not on Amazon) in maybe 2011 or 2012? I loved it. I just felt I had better control with it than a skinny stylus.

Now I have a 4 year old. And I found it was the perfect size/shape to help him trace his letters on the ipad. (There are several great apps that help train the fine motor skills.) Well, it's gone missing somewhere in the house. The way things do with a 4 year old. So I've bought a replacement.

It feels more like you're using a highlighter - about the same diameter as one - and isn't heavy at all. Best stylus (for me) out there on the market.

When I got this, I was somewhat on the fence between something with a finer, precision point that was active (you have to turn those on) and a passive one like this.

I was not disappointed with my decision to get the Cosmonaut! It really is pretty precise for what it is and best of all requires no charging. It "just works". It also feels very natural, just like writing with a dry erase marker and will work on many, many existing devices.

A good heads up though, and something to consider is that Google recently partnered up with several companies to standardize stylus on Android I guess. So new active stylus options may appear on the market soon with extra features. If you NEED pressure sens. Then it may be worth the wait.

When I initially got this product, it worked great on my iPad 2. I love the form factor. I bought the iPad Air, and was super bummed to realize it hardly works at all on that screen. I have been storing it on my desk in a magnetic container used to store paperclips. I realize that the core of the Cosmonaut is made of aluminum, so it shouldn't matter. For some odd reason I t doesn't work as well on the iPad 2 now either. The tip shows almost no signs of wear. I'm wondering if other people have had this problem as well or if someone from Studio Neat could explain what is happening.
If I'm doing something wrong, or if there's an explanation, I would be happy to change my rating. I'm a native Portlander and I would love to support a locally based company, but i can't give misleading reviews.

Update: while researching stylus options for the iPad Air, I have learned that many people are having major issues with different stylus that worked well on past model iPads no longer working on the Air. I have amended my rating to reflect this, as no company should be expected to be able to make a product that will be useful on technology that doesn't exist yet. Studio Neat is a good company, and I didn't say enough about how much I liked the product initially, right down to the packaging.
Apple changed their screen sensitivity on the Air, but it works with a finger, which is all they promise it will do. It also wasn't Studio Neat's problem or responsibility, since they were tonly making a product for older iPads. It's still a bummer that mine isn't working like it used to, but perhaps the rubber nib got stretched out? or it was coated with something and it wore off? I may try ordering a new nib, if they sell them, to see if that changes anything for how it works with my iPad 2. For Air users, you may be out of luck unless Apple has a trick up their sleeve in a software fix? Or Studio Neat has a softer (?) replacement nib that works with the Air?

Update #2: I was contacted by the company (Studio Neat) and asked to send an email regarding my issue. I should have given them the chance to resolve my issue before posting a negative review. I forgot some companies care enough about individual customer care enough to burn a calorie dealing with the people who purchase their products. I've been down that road a few times in the past and it didn't occur to me to give them a chance. I explained my issue and got a reply the same day requesting my address.
A week later I received a new tip for my stylus. It was a bit harder and smoother than the previous one. I switched them out and the difference was immediate. It actually works! This thing works better than it ever did before. I love the form factor. Small hands may or may not agree, but I have big hands and this feels perfect.
The only criticism I have now is that the eraser doesn't work very well (I'm kidding!)

Tech update needed for latest tablets

I love the weight and feel of the stylus. It's just like using an old "Sharpie" dry erase marker. I really want to love it. If you use any older style tablet or smart phone, you are good. It will work amazingly. Unfortunately, (gee thanks Apple grr), the screen was changed significantly on the iPad Air 2. If you try to use it on one of those, it takes a ridiculous amount of hand strength to make it do anything. Apple changed the screen material and told no one, including product developers. On an iPad Air 2, or iPhone 6/6Plus, this stylus won't work well at all. On a iPhone 5s or iPad Air 1 or earlier, this stylus is one of the best ones you can get. Sadly, I have an Air 2, and cannot use it.

Nice fat stick - but doesn't work well with some touchscreens

I bought this for personal use, and like using it occasionally on my HUAWEI P30. However, my girlfriend attempted to use it for a touchpad for her tele-work, and there were accuracy and sensitivity issues that another hybrid pen/pointer didn't have.

I'm only suggesting this as a purchase for the well-to-do or well-off with no better way to waste their money.

Simple, sublime stylus

Love this chunky stylus. It’s well weighted and feels comfortable in the hand, with a rubberised shaft. The tip has some give, depressing under pressure. In all, the Cosmonaut is a class act with a premium feel. Simple yet sublime. It is a pleasure to use in graphics apps like Sketch. You might think its tip is too large for detailed work, but when you consider that you can zoom in on areas to work in detail, the size of the nib no longer poses a problem.

My only grumble is the packaging. At first I was impressed with the stylish tube the cosmonaut comes in. Then I tried to open it. The stylus was so tightly wedged into the cardboard tube that I had to use a knife and scissors to surgically remove it from its cardboard sheath. The cardboard is very tough and thick - comprising of many thin layers, so it was not easy to cut into the tube to release the stylus. I was lucky to avoid scratching the stylus; I could imagine it being very easy to accidentally cut into the rubber of the stylus whilst trying to prise the tube open.

Ive tried a few stylus over the years and most of them dont really amount to much and end up in a dusty drawer somewhere, totally forgotten about.

This one is definitely different, a huge step above the cheap ones you will see littered all over amazon yet incredibly simple in its design.

Its big and chunky with a very round tip, so don't expect pin point accuracy, but the extra grip you get from the size and the balance of it helps to counter that effect and actually makes the whole thing feel very natural.

I would have loved to have given this a full 5*, but for some reason my iPad Air 2 didn't recognise the screen presses every time, resulting in the occasional broken and unpredictable line. You can certainly still work with it, but its just not quite perfect.
I also found the packaging a little bit stiff, which was weird and not a big deal, but took some real finger tip strength to get out of the cardboard the first time.

Bought this for a child with severe dexterity problems, haven't looked back - has helped child to access touch screen tablets with ease and due to it's thickness is able to hold like a normal pen - simply fantastic.

Some have said that it's a little heavy but we don't agree, we think it's actually a nice weight and gives the hand 'feedback' by resting nicely when being held in pincer (tripod) grip. The weight and thickness keeps it down on the fleshy skin bit between the thumb and forefinger making it easy to maintain the pincer (tripod) grip and increase fine motor function.

Other stylus's are too thin and light and if you have problems with pincer grip your fingers can roll off and the stylus 'flicks up and forward' - which is quite demoralising when your trying your hardest - if you have problems getting food into your mouth using chopsticks then you know what I mean. (If you imagine that thin stylus's are your 'chopsticks' then this stylus is your 'fork')

It can also be used in the more basic fist grip, so if you can't manage a pincer (tripod) grip or thin stylus's elude you then this could be the one for you.

We did take a risk due to the price but it was well worth it.
