It is a great book but the binding broke off the book after the second week. This book is detrimental for Architect Students though definitely worth the purchase and definitely worth it to keep it without its binding.

This is a great little (yet chunky) book. I like the utilitarian style of the yellow paper that the pages are printed on, and the line-drawn illustrations. It contains all kinds of useful tips and nuggets of information with regards to a wide range of studio craft and techniques. Everything from which tools are useful in the studio to how to calculate how much card you will need to cut out for a model, and much much more. Some of the pages provide a very brief overview and are not enough in themselves to teach yourself (for example there is an introduction to tools and some basic tips on their use, but not enough detail to learn from the book alone). However, other sections contain enough information that you could get quite far by just following the tips and instructions in the book. Overall I would recommend it as a great little handbook that is chocablock full of useful tips and tricks for the beginner.

This is a brilliant book as an intro for a first year student because it's a tell me & show me book so you won't have to spend hours sourcing info in a library that may not be specifically for archi students. It's like a tutor in the form of a book. Which is the way I see it as an ex draughtsman (pre CAD) who has tried archi as a mature student.
Yes you need to be able to draw freehand but certainly need a degree of draughtsmanship as well to exhibit architectural technology.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Draughtsmen are survivors.

The content of the book is good. The glue in the binding is not, so it's all sort of falling a bit apart. That could just be my copy, but anyway. It is a practical book for any architecture dtudent.
