Product Description

Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings.

Play as Cuphead or Mugman (in single player or local co-op) as you traverse strange worlds, acquire new weapons, learn powerful super moves, and discover hidden secrets while you try to pay your debt back to the devil!

Fun but challenging

I love the retro styling and animation style graphics. Not heavy on story which I like. Action becomes a matter of understanding timing and best method of attack. After that, it's a matter of near flawless execution to complete the level. Kind of like old school games like Super Mario Brothers where you'll repeat a level over and over until you master it (or get lucky). If you get frustrated easily, maybe not the game for you because it WILL get frustrating and I've been a gaming enthusiast for almost 50 years starting with the Atari 2600! Worth the money, especially if on sale.

Edit: I got the opportunity to actually play the game so just my 2 cents. So far, it's been a great pleasure to play through the levels. I'm not sure if the game is hard or I'm just bad at run&guns (or both), but it's tough enough that I don't breeze through the stages, yet not so hard that I want to give up and stop playing - in fact, I'm eager to try again. I highly recommend you use a remote to play, as it's a little too "twitchy" to play well on a keyboard.

This game gives so many nods to arts that are sadly becoming more and more rare. The music was performed by a live band and is absolutely fantastic. For the game, they gave the music a sort of tinny/scratch quality to better fit the mood, however if you listen to the actual soundtrack, the filters were removed so everything plays cleanly and clearly. All of the art was drawn traditionally by hand on paper at 24fps (gameplay is at 60fps), following the same style as old time cartoons such as Betty Boop. I actually specifically became interested in this game due to the animation methods, and decided to purchase it once I saw how the art, music, and gameplay all fit in together.

The game is rated E (for Everyone) but honestly I think young children will probably find it difficult to clear stages. The story, dialogue, and animation are all clean and fun, though, so young ones could at least watch others play and be entertained in that way. Kids 10 and up will probably struggle but the dedicated ones should be able to get through it.

All in all, I'm pleased with my purchase, and think it's definitely well worth the money to pick up if you like challenging run&guns. The fantastic art and music are bonuses!

This game is punishingly difficult. The bosses, run and guns and just overall game play is maddening, frustrating and so very much annoying. You'll want to scream, curse and shout to the heavens. You'll want to throw down your controller and insist the game is purposely trying to prevent you from progressing. Everything about this game makes you wonder why you keep playing and decide to abuse yourself constantly. It is by far, one of the most challenging games of all time.

However, it does not change the fact the game is a beautiful and wonderful masterpiece. The animation, design and music is perfection. The game is a love letter to the old timey cartoons Fleischer cartoons and it's excellent. The music was apparently recorded using the same methods of that time period as well which is fantastic. This is one of the greatest games of all time. Every detail, character, sprite, background, setting is carefully constructed and it's a sight to behold. Hands done, a brilliant entry in the annals of gaming history.

Amazingly fun. Don't know where everyone is getting their dud codes from, but I was fortunate enough to receive a digital code that worked. If you're looking to get this game, be wary of buying from this retailer, because it seems like the chance of you getting a code that doesn't work outweighs what you're looking for. If you can, purchase the game from Steam, from the MDHR Studios website, G2A (if they have codes in stock), or some other vendor.

I loved the challenge of this game, although I did have to take breaks in frustration frequently. With all the fun, challenging gameplay, the thing I love the most is the animation style. The 1930s animation style is lovingly recreated in Cuphead. The animation combined with the jazz and big band soundtracks, makes you feel like you a playing an old Fleischer Studios short. This wonderful attention to detail, including the ambient audio having static like you would hear in the old film reels, makes the game something truly unique.

The design for this game is absolutely beautiful! The game mechanics are fun but require some time to adjust to and master. The game itself is frustratingly awesome. It's one of those games you can play and play and play and eventually conquer, but it takes time and patience. Super challenging, but a beautiful design and straight forward game mechanics! I played on a PC with xbox 360 controllers.

The co-op version is just as fun, and equally (if not more) difficult. Makes a good gift, or just a fun game to play solo or with friends.

Die liebevolle Animation, das Gameplay, die Story - einfach Alles an diesem Spiel hat mir so gut gefallen, dass ich eine positive Reszension hinterlassen wollte, obwohl ich eher selten Reszensionen verfasse. Es gibt kaum ein Jump n Run, das mir derart viel Spaß gemacht hat. Da fallen mir allenfalls noch Braid und Einige der Super Mario Spiele ein. Eines meiner All time favourites zusammen mit Age of Empires, Starcraft, Banjo Kazooie und Monkey Island. Hoffentlich gibt es noch einen zweiten Teil.
