Superb... it does need to be aired out for a bit but the effect of the background when thrown OOF is very nice. Minor imperfections found when closely inspected do not show up when properly set up. It's obviously hand painted so spot and brush strokes are seen up close. Check out my up load. Beefy construction, would def buy again.

Unpacking this my first impressions were, wow this is big (still folded), wow this smells bad (think wet oil paint/poorly ventilated painting studio), wow that is a burly spring! The spring that pops this out is about an inch wide (compared to less than 1/2 inch on typical 50" reflectors) and made of some serious steel. All that metal is not light either (almost 10 pounds). Folded in the bag, mine is just under 30" wide. The paint jobs on both sides are good, I only noticed one dot that I'm thinking I'll need to hide or PS out later. This has a very nice flat finish as well, minimally reflective. The centers on mine are much lighter colored than the photo on Amazon seems to indicate, it was obviously hand painted so I'm sure they vary considerably.

A warning on using this: This can give you (or someone or something nearby) a proper whack if you flip it open without caution. I'd strongly advise watching the video for folding this before trying to. I'd also advise practicing opening and folding it till you are comfortable with the process before you plan to actually use it on site anywhere (you will probably feel and look rather challenged the first few times). This beast is not an easy fold, I own several smaller fold-up reflectors and this is nothing like those, this takes some determination and confidence in the method to get it folded so the loops are even and it will fit nicely back into the bag it comes with. The bag is ok, kind of on the cheap side for the zipper so it is important to get the unit folded so it fits well into the bag or I'd wager the zipper will fail pretty quick. It would have been nice to see a slightly better made storage bag at this price point. Overall a sturdy product with a decent finish. I'll add more next week after I use it for a project if I see the need.

I do professional head shot sessions on site for many of my clients. This item is amazing! The size works well for single head shot and portrait sessions. I love the versitality of two different backgrounds and it photographs beautifully. The quality is great and travels well. It is a challenge to twist it back into the shape to fit in it's case and a youtube video and practice have helped out with that issue.

This is a beautiful piece of muted art to place behind your subject for photographing. Yes it was easy to open. Yes it was impossible to put away the first time. I had to go to youtube and watch a video on how to turn this back into a collapsible unit. But 15 seconds later it was done in the first try. Don't let that dissuade you from buying this.

I love the hand painted colors. One side is great with cool colors, one side is great with warm colors. Both are earthy and muted. My brown side does have a small area of concentrated colored paint. I would prefer it not to be there, but it is, and each one must be unique.

The muslin does have a painted odor, which probably will dissipate with use.

The size is great for individual pics of people, head shots, and product shots.

My muslin opens easily but is not flat, it has a bit of curve to it. Not enough to notice in photos, but when leaning the product on a wall for support you do notice it is not level.

I also have a plain white and black backdrop. I think I have it all covered with these 4 options.

Item arrived quickly, was packaged well, and the muslin fits into a small (ok, not so small...) zippered bag for transport and storage.

This works great, and is a really nice looking background. I use it for both corporate headshots and video conferences (behind a person sitting at their desk.)

I also bought the Lasolite 3355 stand, the Fotodiox 5 x 7 collapsible green screen, and the CowboyStudio Photography/Video 3-light kit with umbrellas (check my other reviews.) For under $350, I have a quasi-professional video/photo studio, complete with green screen, for our corporate videos and headshots.

Even without the light kit, I have very little light bleeding through the material. I have a huge window behind my desk and even with blinds open, very little light bleeds through. It's pretty thick, and it's more of a cotton/muslin material, not nylon. It's not shiny at all. The brown side is a very nice mottled, blurry background and flattering to skin tones. The gray is also nice and blurry and gives a clean, more modern look.

The added stand mentioned above puts the backdrop at just the right height for a seated subject, or you can also use vertically for a standing one. It's really a great accessory to add to this background.

As far as folding it, yes, the YouTube videos help. But it's really not hard once you get it the first time. I haven't seen anyone suggest this, but the logical way to do it is to put one (short) end against the base of a wall and that gives you leverage. There is no "kneeling on it" ever necessary.

Do be careful when you open it. You have to be in a completely open space with nothing and noone around you. It sprongs out with quite a lot of force, as other reviewers have noted. Nothing to be scared of, but it does almost instantly go from a little circle to a 7 foot wide thing.
