This is a brilliant study bible, and probably the best currently available. For that, it deserves six stars. Maybe even more.
But. And it is a huge but. Or perhaps better to say, it is a tiny but.
The fonts are too small for anyone other than gifted with Superman powered sight. And, worse than that, the logic for what is in normal and what is in small type is, I suggest, totally wrong.
Forgive me for saying this, but I don't need another Bible. I didn't buy this book as a Bible. I bought it for the commentary, the study notes, and all the supplementary materials. So - here's the thing - I didn't really care how small the font is for the Bible text. What was/is vitally important to me though is to be able to easily read the wonderful variety of notes and references.
But the book is set so the Bible text is tiny 9 point, and the references are 7 point, which is beyond small. Indeed, I think some parts of the references are even smaller - the official description claims 7 point, but how is it some parts of the references are smaller than others?
This would have been so much more useful and user-friendly with the font sizes swapped. Or with the font just larger. It isn't and never will be a pocket bible, so why try and squash it down to 'only' 3000 pages and 4 lbs. Give us a larger page size, give us more pages, and give us larger font. Please. Or even split it into two volumes.
Yes, I know. There are large font versions of this excellent work. So I'm returning this edition and have ordered the large font version. Costs twice as much, but if it is actually approachable and able to be easily read, it will be worth every penny of it.
I urge you to skip the standard edition and go straight to the large font edition, too.
