The Regatta Captain is an incredible addition to Stuhrling Prestige. This stunning Swiss made timepiece features a sturdy solid stainless steel case with a unique unidirectional ratcheting bezel. The radiant dial his a high polished finish and includes the Arabic numerals and baton indices that have been treated with Luminova for an easy read in low-light conditions. The Regatta Captain is also a professional diver's watch with 200 meters water resistance. It comes equipped with a solid stainless steel link bracelet.
Krysterna is proprietary to Stührling Original and refers to the crystals that are used in its timepieces. Krysterna stems from the eyewear industry and has more strength over a spread surface area than sapphire. Krysterna crystals are more scratch resistant than mineral crystals and more shatter resistant than sapphire crystals.
The Prestige Family is a special segment of Stuhrling Prestige, which includes the highest quality timepieces that are manufactured in Switzerland; every member of this incredible collection is Swiss made! I normally buy automatic dive watches but... I fell in love with the blue color of this watch. I was not too surprised that when the watch arrived it was... you guessed it... dead. I've read some of the other reviews and was pretty much expecting as much since this is an older model and for some reason Sturhling must pack their watches with the battery engaged. I just so happen to be going to bring my wife's watches to get some batteries that day so after the new battery install the watch worked perfectly. There is that annoying second hand slightly off from the markers thing that has been mentioned in other reviews. I'm not that picky and at this price I am willing to over look it. The watch itself is beautiful and does make a show on the wrist. The color scheme of the watch is very unique and for that I give Sturhling designers kudos. Not too flashy (i.e. some Invictas and Androids) yet not common either. The band is pretty sturdy and looks good with it's fully brushed top and polished only on the side of the links and watch case. The bezel moves well and has about 45 clicks to make it around the dial which is not 60 but oh well. The lume is good on the hour and second hands and less so on the hour marks and 6 and 12 but passable. It does have a screw down crown so I do believe the water resistant rating but since I don't dive will only be swimming or showering... maybe... with the watch. So far no problems and I'm about a week or two wearing it pretty consistently. The Ronda 515 keeps time well but I guess it takes getting used to the quarts movement which seems toy-like after wearing automatics pretty consistently over the years. Over all I'm happy with the purchase because it's a handsome son of gun. I would take away 2 starts for the watch being dead on arrival and the second hand off center issue but would add a start because it looks so good.
I decided to kick it up a notch after finding out the Stuhrling " Prestige" brand was actually " Swiss made". I just got it yesterday and was absolutely floored when it did not work ! ! ! OK ...now you can call me stupid.
Shame on Amazon for sending me 3 defective watches in 8 days as well as a 4th defective one from one of their 3rd party vendors. Very costly for them and a total disaster for me . Wouldn't you think after shipping the first defective watch they would at least have checked the 2nd one to see if it worked.....especially when I specifically asked them to make sure it worked before they shipped it.
Poor Max Stuhrling, he must be rolling over in his grave . Stuhrling rose to be one of the best Swiss watch companies in the world after he started producing watches over 150 years ago.
By the way I have still not recieved a response from my email to Stuhrling from over a week ago. Sorry Max, your customer service has gone to H E double tooth picks as well.
200M rated. I have gotten this watch wet plenty of times. Worn it in the shower, in the pool, the ocean, even hot tubes. Never had an issue. Just make sure you have the crown screwed down and you are good to go.
Unidirectional bezel. It's one of those odd 90-click designs, but it has great action with little play. I actually prefer it over the bezels on all my Seiko's, even the one's priced well over this watch.
Solid links, end-links, and a machined clasp. The bracelet is fantastic. The BEST quality that I have ever owed for a watch at this price. The dual-push button release with safety clasp works great and will never come loose if you don't want to. Also comes with three micro adjust slots for a precise fit. The finish is also outstanding. I always prefer a brushed finished over polished, and on this watch it is done well.
Sapphire Crystal. If you know watches, then enough said. If not, always go for sapphire if you can. I've worn this watch fairly often and the crystal is still flawless.
The case is mostly polished with brushed accents on the top, both executed very well. The word "STURHLING" is engraved on the side which will be a love/hate thing for most people, but it is done very well. The sunburst dial is more of a aquamarine blue in person, but it is beautiful nonetheless. The orange 12 and 6 markers along with the SP logo on the second hand give it a nice funky look without going over the top. The date window is small, but lines up perfectly and is easily legible.
Swiss made. I'm sure this watch meets the minimum requirements that allow the designation "Swiss Made" but it is still swiss made nonetheless.
Honestly my only gripe with this watch is the lume, which is the case for basically every watch I own other than the Seiko Monster. After a quick charge it shines bright for about 20 minutes, after that it is pretty much nonexistent. I wish instead of using cheap lume these companies would just use my nice applied indices, but for $150 you can't complain too much.
Overall I would highly recommend this watch. Quality build and finish, a unique design that stands out but is not obnoxious, great water resistance, sapphire crystal. For $150 you can't ask for much more.
SIDE NOTE. I always include this on my reviews of cheap watches. Sturhling, like most cheap watch brands, usually make some nice budget watches, but their quality control can be lacking to say the least. My advice, only buy this brand if you can get it through PRIME. When you get the watch, test it out for a couple weeks. Wear the crap out of it around the house (being careful not to scratch or nick it up though). Take it in the shower or bath to test the water resistance. This way if you get a water leak, have hands fall off, or it just stops working, send that bad boy right back to amazon.
