Body - The body of the watch is crafted from pure stainless steel, and it has a very polished finish which gives it a very reflective look. The case is 40mm and 10-11mm in thickness. If your not so sure about the sizing in mm, the face is about the average size and it consists of a slim profile. The hands of the watch are dark/light blue depending on how much light is being exposed onto it. Around the dial is a black border with little dots, which represent the hours and minutes, making it easier for a person to tell the time even if it is a see through dial. Overall great presentation and I am quiet impressed.
Movement - The movement of the watch is a Mechanical/Wind-up movement. It does not run on battery power but rather it is a very small spring loaded mechanism that keeps accurate time by slowly releasing energy and moving the gears of the movement. This energy is stored by the person winding the watch everyday or other day by turning the crown upwards about 15-20 times. Winding the watch takes about 10 seconds and the movements last for a long time. I have some wind up watches that I have owned for about 2 years and they still perform great. This movement is backed by a 2 year guarantee from Sthurling, so you can purchase this product with a safety net to fall on just incase anything was to happen.
Strap - The beautiful aspect of this product is that, when purchased Sthurling provides you with two sets of genuine leather strap. One of them is black which comes installed, and the other one is dark brown, which is provided seperately. The lenght is about 7.5-8 inches, which is average or also known as Men's standard size. The strap has alligator skin pattern carved on it, giving it a classic and elegant look. The strap does not come broken in, so at first it might be uncomfortable but overtime it becomes very comfy and a pleasure to wear.
After all is said and done, this is an amazing watch. For the price and the quality we are being offered, this is an absolute steal. It is one of those rare products that I always receive compliments on and it slowly became one of my favorite watches. I loved my first purchase so much, I decided to purchase a second one to give to my brother as a gift. The movement is absolutely mesmerizing and always a fun to look at. I am very happy with this product and I truly believe this is worth investing for. Hopefully I helped! Let me know if you have anymore question or comments.
The warranty process is not like the usual. Sthurling provides you with a proof of purchase card and a little paper which you need to fill out with basic information and mail to them in order to activate the warranty. It does not cover physical damage nor cracks on the dial window. However, if anything happens to your movement, they will replace it for free.
It's completely mechanical which means you have to wind it up (by turning the knob clockwise)for it to run but, a) It's so easy to do b) You don't have to worry about replacing a battery and c) It runs for a very long time with just a few turns. You could wind it up and it would run overnight if you wanted to keep it going untill morning but if it stops running you will have to reset the time when you wear it again. It's extrememly easy to do so I have no problems with it.
As far as the watch looks, it is suprisingly masculine. I thought it would be more eliquent or feminine but the outside of it is somewhat bulbous and it takes up a good portion of the wrist so the indside comands a little less attention than I thought it would. This was a plus in my book because the watch is so nice, it is almost too nice to wear unless you are dressed up but the masculine look makes it more versitle in my opinion because it makes it look a little less flashy with regular clothes.
That being said, I love this watch. I got it half thinking it could be a gift for the holidays but when it came there was no way I was giving it away. It's beautifully made, high quality, the picture acuratly depicts it but it's so awesome in person. Setting the time, winding it up and changing the bands are so easy, convinience factor is definitely nice. The only cons are that you do have to wind it and set the time if you go for a period of not wearing/winding it, the directions in the box are pretty vauge (hopefully I helped with that earlier in this review), it's pretty big and masculine if you're not a fan of that and also this watch is freaking nice so it's not something that looks right wearing most normal clothes. I have put on the brown straps/bands (which I like a lot) and worn them with jeans and a nice sweatshirt though and it looked good. I got it for $70 so the value was huge and I seriously love it.
Oh also it comes with a one year warrenty in case it stops running or something but you have to mail it in, it's a tiny card sized thing doesn't take long to fill out. That's pretty much everything I think you need to know about it. I love it and, at the price I got it for, definitely a steal.
Anywho, the watch itself feels sturdy and comes with two nice straps (they remind me of my old Monaco straps). This particular Stürling uses a Chinese-made movement of unknown provenance. The paperwork on the movement is severely lacking, but through several trials I can say with some certainty that it has a 44hour reserve (could vary movement to movement, who knows). It runs a little fast (gained 2 seconds over 44 hours). The blue hands are quite stunning in person. The hour notations are a bit hard to read out in the real world (sunlight etc).
The watch has performed better than expected for what I paid ($69.99 on sale), it keeps decent time, and has already acted as a conversation starter on three occasions! All in all, if you are new to mechanical watches, just want an interesting piece, and you don't need the certified precision of a COSC chronograph, or the flash of a precious metal showpiece, this is a great place to start!
Given the broken strap, movements, and packaging I strongly suspect that Amazon sent me a previously-returned item. Needless to say, I am very disappointed.
