These authors recognize that good writing should reflect its context and purpose; a business report, a short story and an academic paper are very different things and will require different sorts of writing. They discuss how a "stylish" writer will apply different techniques in differing contexts, and may even break a few "rules" in order to achieve an effect. That may frustrate those looking for a simple road map or list of guidelines, yet it's an an honest lesson.
This book should be required reading for anyone working as an editor, and in this age of self-publishing that is likely to be the author. Even if you are only publishing blog entries, "clarity and grace" are worthy objectives. It is very difficult to see the bad-habits in one's own writing. This book will help.
Thanks Amazon for making it easy to find.
