1.Can't beat the price.
2. The red color is so rich and happy, not a faded tone. It really brightens and enriches a bedroom, with the look of more expensive bedding.
3.It is sized on the larger side, so keep this in mind if you have a bed on the smaller side. An example of what I mean is that I have a queen bed that is quite tall, so the queen bedspreads are short on it. Therefore I have to order king size bedspreads for my queen bed. And most king sizes just cover the right height. This Emma bedspread so far has been the largest I have gotten in a king size. An advantage for me!
4.It is very lightweight, which is an advantage for many people and not what some people might want. So keep this in mind. I use this Emma with a fleece blanket underneath for warmth in the winter.
5.It is so washable. Being lightweight it fits easily in a home washer and dryer. I have to wash all my linens every week to control my allergies, so I love this about this bedspread.
6.Because I wash it every week, I can say it is good quality, as it hasn't faded, shrunk nor ripped. The quality is what I was most concerned when I saw the inexpensive price. It really surpassed my expectations for quality.
1.Blend of cotton and polyester, which might bother some people that want all cotton, but along comes the price tag.
2.It can feel a little rough, but not an issue for us at home.
3.Made in China, then again, that is probably the reason for the low price. So you have to weigh in price or American made!
UPDATE March 26, 2014 After a couple of years of owning the first matelasse I purchased I need to say that it still looks like new. The color is still a deep bright red, and it has not faded at all. It hasn't ripped neither. And take into consideration that I wash this matelasse every week in hot water due to our allergies. A couple of notes I want to add. First, I purchased a second matelasse, identical to the first one, since I don't want to have to wait until one is washed and dry to make the bed. When I received this second matelasse it was NOT the deep rich red that the first matelasse was. This second matelasse was more of a washed out red. The only reason I didn't return it is because I was in the middle of a move. Now that I am established in my new home I am buying a third of this matelasses to replace the second one with the washed out color, hoping that this third one is the same rich red color as the first one. If it is the faded color of the second one I will be returning it this time. My second note is that even when this matelasse has withstand the weekly hot water washes with no fading or ripping, it will pull if you put something sharp on it, example a wicker basket. Knowing this, I am careful of what I place on top of it, and this adds to the reason that my matelasse still looks like new. My last note is a reminder of what I have said in my original review: that this matelasse is a poly/cotton blend, which can feel rough and scratchy. This really isn't a problem for us as we don't sleep with the matelasse touching our skin. I mainly purchased this matelasse for the easiness of washing and drying it every week in hot water. And of course, because it looks pretty. However, if you are really sensitive about the feel of things against your skin, or want 100% cotton, this is not the matelasse for you.
UPDATE November 23, 2014 As I stated in my latest update of March 2014, I did buy a third matelasse hoping it will be as bright red as the first one I have purchased about 3 years ago. Well, unfortunately the third matelasse came in the same washed out red color as the second one I had ordered. I did return it to Amazon and requested to be sent a replacement. The replacement, which would be the fourth matelasse, came as washed out red color as the second and third. So I returned it as well and instead of a replacement I requested a full refund, which Amazon is gracious about. I am sorry to think that all the new matelasse will be faded red color and not the bright red color of my first purchase. See the pictures I had previously posted so you can see the difference. Now, if you are looking for an antiqued look then this will be ok with you. I just want to clarify the color difference as my original review said how bright the red color was. I have to say that this first matelasse still looks like new and doesn't fade even after almost 3 years of weekly washing in hot water.
03/13/13 - update:
All right what is a fact is a fact - after few years of use that bedspread shows itself in a really good light - I must confess. It diddn't fall apart, colors are still like it's a new one. We decided to buy another one for our guest room, this time full size. It came a bit longer on all sides, about 3-4 inces. You'll have to either trim it or lift your bed a bit from the floor. If you have only mattres and no foundation for it go with 1 size smaller, like full size for queen bed. All from my previous review stays the same, no made in USA items under $100, still made in China. Well - I'm cranking up 1 star :)
