My opinion has changed on this dress now that I've worn it a couple of times.
I originally felt the dress was pretty breathable, but that is definitely not the case, at all. I wore it for an event at my work where I was inside in the AC, though it wasn't perfectly cool, and the dress felt a bit suffocating. I felt it was making me warmer than I would have normally been because the fabric is just so thick and heavy.
Also, I feel the sheering out of the fabric is getting worse. I mentioned originally that the fabric under the arms tends to go sheer naturally, I guess from the weight of the skirt portion pulling down on it, and it seems worse now than the first time I wore it. I almost feel like my arm rubbing on the area, even just slightly, is causing the coloring of the fabric to rub off. I've also noticed that the fabric along my lower back is becoming more sheer, possibly from sitting down and having it naturally stretch with my body.
Overall, I will not be purchasing another color and can't really recommend anyone purchase this unless they are okay with the issues I mentioned. I just feel it's becoming more and more cheap looking after each wear. I'm a little curious to see how it'll look after being washed. I don't have high hopes!
I purchased this dress in a size small in black after skimming through a ton of the other reviews and eyeballing lots of the pictures. For reference, I'm normally a medium in most dresses and tops, a 6/8 in pants, about a 39-31-37 (bust-waist-hip), 5'3", and a 34D. I got it expecting the bikini-like fabric and the okay quality, but I also only paid $16.99 for it so I wasn't very worried.
The dress fits me perfectly. It flows beautifully and the cut is very flattering on most figures. I'm hourglass shaped but also petite and most tops end up being too long on me in the torso. This dress is the PERFECT length for me. It just barely brushes the ground and covers my feet without dragging when I'm wearing flats. If you're any taller than 5'3", be prepared for it to be shorter.
The fabric is quite heavy but very comfortable. It's temporarily cool where we are in Texas right now, and my office at work is freezing cold all day every day, so I don't feel as if it's too heavy to wear as long as it isn't a super hot day. The dress billows around in the wind and is very breezy. It just flows beautifully...and above all, it has POCKETS! What's not to love about having some pockets in an already comfy dress? They are not obvious at all when you aren't using them and don't cause the hips of the dress to poke out, like in some other dresses. YAY!
I did find the front v to be pretty low cut but I don't mind at all. I love low cut tops and can just pin it closed a little higher if I want it to be work appropriate. I also want to point out that the top fits perfectly on me, but if your girls are any bigger than my 34Ds, you may end up stretching the fabric and that looks terrible.
THAT right there is the biggest issue I had with this dress and why I docked a star and may end up docking another after wearing it a few times and seeing how it goes. Whenever the fabric on this dress stretches, it goes white first and eventually becomes sheer as it stretches further. I've included a picture as an example, showing that I just stretched the top a bit and you could see my hand right through it (please note that I'm wearing a nude bra in those pictures and everything is covered). The biggest issue isn't that it goes sheer, as you shouldn't have that issue unless you just buy much too small of a size, but it does make the fabric look white anywhere it stretches even a little bit. Due to the fact that the fabric is also quite heavy, it kind of stretches itself out where the skirt part is sewn into the top part, right around the bra line. I notice that area, particularly right below where my arms rest at my sides, the material tends to just stay a bit stretched because the heavy skirt is pulling right there. Again, the dress fits me perfect, almost a bit loosely, so it's just the nature of the dress causing that and not the fit on me.
When it comes to the fit, I would recommend (like lots of other who posted) that you size down. I wear a small-medium in some things and figured going to the small was the best bet, so I recommend that, unless you are very tall, that you go one size down.
Overall, this is a beautiful dress at a great price, as long as you get the right size and are aware that the fabric can become a bit discolored when stretched. I'm curious enough to possible buy the lighter colored option and see how that one does. I definitely wouldn't mind having other colors.
