Part of it is the great DVD which accompanies the book. The DVD interacts with many of the book's projects. As the reader looks at each project, it is indicated if the DVD is going to demonstrate part of the technique which is being used. This is very cool and helpful!
I have been reading and reviewing for a while. I have seen a lot of technique and design books. However, I especially like this one because the range in the 77 minute DVD ( which I viewed on my laptop) is truly massive yet easy to understand. There are 28 different selections on the DVD to watch. You are instructed in an excellent and friendly manner. You learn how to work with stringing, stitching, wire, metal work, polymer clay, metal clay, and a hand held torch. You even learn how to refill your hand held torch!. as well the section on resin is very accessible and informative.
The introduction explains the intention of this book. It discusses its variety of marvelous stylish designs.
There are 32 projects in the book, by some of the best teachers around, such as Anna Elizabeth Draeger, Sherry Haab, Naomi Fujimoto, and Irina Miech, for example. You cannot resist the lovely designs they explore and create! The designs have been divided into five sections in the book. The sections reflect different styles. They are:
1) Romantic Allure
2) Tailored Classic
3) Urban Edge
4) Bohemian Beauty
5) Modern Art
There is also a basics section and a list of all the marvelous contributors.
Every project has extra tips as well as budget options (if you are in that position which seems to plague most of us these days, namely "I am sort of poor--how can I make this pretty inexpensively?").
this book has you covered every which way! So does the DVD!
For example, are you interested in those cool backless bezels designers offer to use with resin? How about replacing a store bought one with a washer from a hardware store? Oh yes!
I am all for that! Speaking of resin, the tips on resin in the DVD are particularly super. Thanks!
I also liked the beading tips as I am a completely helpless and dyslexic seed beader ... until NOW. I can't believe how easily the DVD mades my confusion on seed beading evaporate.
You will get to examine all sorts of jewelry to choose from. You will learn what you like and how to make it.
In my opinion this is a wonderful starter book for a young adult who is just learning, or a new hobbyist who has a lot of questions which need answering. To look at the projects, watch the DVD and to understand what you might like to try is the greatest strength of this appealing and fun book. I would give this to an eager jewelry designer and watch out for what happens next! I expect STYLISH JEWELRY YOUR WAY would incite all sorts of creativity in anyone fortunate enough to have a copy. Get yours and check out who you are today. Are you an Alluring Romantic? Perhaps you are a Bohemian Beauty. Maybe you have the soul of a Modern Artist.
Whatever suits you, turn to this book for inspiration and some very, very good directions on how to achieve your style. I guarantee you will enjoy the insight that
