This trio creates perfect combination of harmony, story telling, and ‘chance taking’ through their improv. And no drums too! This is the type of recording that you can play over and over without ever getting tired of it. The unique arrangements are never predictable. Versace covers so many different keyboard sounds and he does them all well, whether piano, B3, or the accordion. Both him and guitarist/bassist Ganz are not only outstanding soloists but very sensitive accompanists providing whatever mood McGarry needs for her pure vocals. To me, McGarry is one of the top handful of jazz singers today. She doesn’t give in to commercialism, proudly sticking to her roots and her own vision even when it involves simple Beatles tune to tie a bow around the theme. Highly recommended.
I would have preferred to not get it from Amazon since Jeff BEzos pays such paltry wages while he rakes in billions. He treats his workers no better than the Walmart family treat theirs and thats really bad. He can easily afford to pay better and look after his workers and still rake in billions but have happy workers and influence other corporations to do the same. Sadly he doesnt have a humanitarian attitude and appears to be driven by pure greed. So whenever I find a decent option to buying from Amazon I do and I encourage others to do the same.
It doesn't take long to fall in love with Kate McGarry brilliant vocal abilities. However, this trio takes it to a whole new level of brilliance. Versace and Ganz manage to both stand out and accompany at the same time. One can feel companionship, intelligence, friendship, LOVE itself flow from this album. The choices of songs serve the story, and what a wonderful story this album tells - nothing can be more important than love. This trio serves music in ways that very few do!
I am thrilled to have another recording by this trio. Would have liked more featuring Gary Versace - on e of the really great multi - instrumentalists.
